Heat Pump part(s)

My '08 Allure has a Coleman heat pump model 900-876. Not blowing cold and want to try replacing start device and run capacitor. Can't seem to find this model on the internet. Does anyone know part #'s for these?

Airxcel/Coleman AC part numbers have more digits. They are found on the foil label underneath the top cover of the AC unit. Typical part numbers are similar to 9231D876, 8335-896, 48208A876, 8333B676 etc. When you have the complete part number you can cross reference it here.

Another alternative is to remove the top cover and locate the capacitors. Note their voltage and micro farad rating and then purchase them locally or online. I use Amazon for convenience and haven't had any problem finding what I need. It's usually about $35 to replace all the caps.

Just to clarify, the voltages are maximums for the capacitor so it's OK to replace a capacitor with a higher voltage rating unless it's physically too large.

The run capacitor for the 900-876 is 1499-573; start is 1497-085. Couldn't find a OEM replacement for the start, but found a different brand on eBay. Will also replace the fan capacitor 1499-546

In my humble opinion, OEM capacitors are not only overpriced but they're junk. In my many years of maintaining HVAC systems I've learned that they use capacitors that will make it through the warranty period and that's all. Aftermarket brand name capacitors live by their reputation. You can always go to a local HVAC parts supplier and buy off the shelf. They don't stock junk.

Also, it's not unusual for sellers on Amazon, eBay, and even RV parts suppliers to prey upon folks that are searching by OEM part numbers. They're often way overpriced - and junk. Search by voltage and microfarads to find the best stuff. Yes, you can use caps rated for higher voltage but they will be bigger. You can identify a run capacitor by its metal case because it gets hot in operation. Start caps are plastic and have a microfarad range instead of a specific microfarad rating like a run capacitor.

Roddy I am a bit confused on your model and part numbers - as mentioned RVP (now Coleman owned by Airxcel) part numbers typcially have additional digits.

My late model year 2007 Allure 470 has RVP (Coleman) air conditioners model 9024-876. The model numbers break down into 90X4 is the series which is most important when searching part numbers, literature etc.....

The start capacitor package (including PTCR, Positive Temperature Coefficient Resistor, fancy name for resistor that increases resistance with temperature) is part number 9333-9021.

The fan run capacitor is part number 1499-5461 - rated at 7.5Mfd/370V.
The compressor run capacitor is part number 1499-5731 rated at 45 Mfd/370V).

As mentioned capacitors are generic; that said I replaced with OEM in two of my air conditioners and so far 7 years on both.....

Make sure you connect the terminals to the correct wires - pay attention to the "Identified" or marked terminal. Take pictures before removing old - or ensure you understand wire schematic (colors) on your unit.

I've attached the parts call out document for the RVP 90X4. See page 2 and 3.

Hope this helps,

Brian

By the way - check your serial number ID sheet on the back of the vanity door - it may have your air conditioner model numbers - I would be surprised if they are different than mine.

Existing unit part numbers trump all, lol.

Hopefully part number from manual will help with sourcing your last one, start capacitor/PTCR package.

So I ordered on eBay what was described as #1497-085/88108 start device. What I got says 88107, how do I know if this is the right part?

If the other markings show the rating and the mF and voltage rating are same as original then I would be comfortable using the different part number. Also assuming the connectors are the same number and configuration to tie to existing wiring.

As mentioned voltage can be higher.

Final: Problem solved

So I replaced all 3:

1499-573, and 1499-546 and 1497-085 ($132 total) and heat pump is working and blowing cold. Problem solved......now if I could just figure out some other linger issues

I have a 2007 CC Affinity with two original Airxcel Series 9000 Heat Pumps 9024-876 and one upgraded Airxcel 49000 Series Heat Pump(Polar Mach 15 BTU w/condensate pump) 49024A879. Not sure what year the 49000 Series came out or when it was replaced.

Series 9000:

Start Capacitor: 1497-086; 88-108 MFD; 169VAC; with an Atwood WSX-5ACM PTCR no longer available (same as WSX-5 and WSX-7 and later upgraded by Coleman to 632691R Nordyne Real-PTCR, MZ92-D-40Rn)

Run Capacitor: 1499-567; 30MFD (uF) +/- 10.0%; 370VAC

Fan Capacitor: 1499-546; 7.5 +/-10.0%; 370VAC

Series 49000:

Start Capacitor: 1497-085; 88-108 MFD; 250VAC; 632691R Nordyne Real-PTCR, MZ92-D-40Rn

Run Capacitor: 1499-572; 40MFD +/- 5.0%; 370VAC

Fan Capacitor: 1499-546; 7.5 +/-5.0%; 370VAC (same part number used by Series 9000 but now +/- 5.0% and oval shaped instead of round)

Coleman AC Relay 1460-1271 (Zettler AZKUHP-1C-120AK)
