How to replace a storage bay latch....

I have a couple of storage bay doors where the latch has broken a plastic tip. Before I just start un-screwing stuff, any advice on how to change these? Basically, you have the plastic latch tips that break off.....

Pretty simple to do.

We have replaced many of our latches, they break all the time with wear and slamming shut over the years. Just bought another 4 to keep on hand today ironically. We use the E525's (US$8 on amazon each) for our Fleetwood Southwind

Unscrew at the latch side (might need to pry edge stuck free!) and then unscrew where the handle is where they are hooked on to and have to release to remove.

The long metal lever will come out, be sure to put onto the new latches the same way you took off, and thread back through and hook back on at the handle end.

I initially found a youtube video on changing baggage door closures that helped.

Hope that helps. Keep screws separate for each component (locks versus handle area).

There are several styles, make sure you order the correct one.

They call them Slam Latches, but last much longer if you don't slam the doors shut. Gentle pressure on each side of the compartment door will lock them in place.

As a side note...gentle knee pressure against the closed lid when opening the latch goes a long way into lengthening the operating life of the cheap plastic latches.
