Kill switch shuts down motor and fuel gauge

Anyone have an answer as to why my engine emergency switch fuse keeps blowing and at the same time my fuel gauge (over 2/3's fuel in tank) reads empty? I try to restart the motor, it turns over but won't start as if out of fuel. Is there a solenoid or fuel sending unit that is connected to the engine emergency switch? CC tech says no, but it makes sense to me that when you hit the red plunger to stop the motor it would kill both the electrical to the ECM and fuel pump. HELP

mtlsted,

On my 04 Intrigue, I have had problems with the emergency stop switch. It is wired to the emergency stop relay and from there to the ECM and a fuse panel connection I think. The estop shuts down the ECM but not the Allison ECU. I haven't looked at the dash in this condition, but the starter will turn but not fire the engine. The estop switch gets dirty and sticks. CC advised to look at the estop last year when I had a start issue like yours. Try pushing it in and out a few times. On the prints I have, I don't see a direct connection to the fuel pump. I don't know if the fuel pump is connected to the ECM but I would think it is. The learning for me was that the estop only interupt's part of the engine controls. I would have thought that the starter would not turn with the estop pushed.

Ok, looks like someone else is having my issues. I had the emergency stop switch replaced. Made it less than four miles from the shop, same problem. Bypassed the switch and it would turn over by not fire. Wondering if it might be a fuel sending unit that is shorting out the emergency stop switch. Help...

On my old rig, the rear engine stop switch is in the middle of the green "ground run" wire.

If that is also the case for your switch, try bypassing the switch with a cheater wire to a fresh grounding point. (Or clean up the grounding connection.)

If that fixes the problem, reintroduce the switch and connect to a new ground point to see if that will work also.

If so, problem fixed.
