Lighted Switches

One of the lighted toggle switches in the bathroom stopped working. I found a replacement, but it does not work. If I touch the black (switched) wire to the red hot wire, the light comes on...I'm confused.

Here are some pics of the wiring. The switch on the right is the new one...

It's not the same switch. Your old one has 3 terminals all in a vertical line. The new one has one terminal on the side. The old one had an internal jumper so when you turned it on, it put power to the light. Your new one does not. You try with a VOM testing to see if you turn it on you get a voltage between the ground wire and the switched hot wire.

If you do, you may need to attach another ground from the ground terminal to the chassis somewhere.

Also try switching the hot wires from top to bottom. You may have them reversed. The switch won't care which terminal is in and out, it will switch no matter what, but the light might.

It does look like a different switch. And, I've been told the original switches were designed so that light would be on at all times, when the switch is on or off; that's the way they work on my coach. Kevin Waite in Junction City has replacement switches that operate properly.

Give these people a try. I bought some switches exactly like that in November 2020. It was the exact same switch. JRV Products was a supplier to Country Coach back in the day.
