It's not the same switch. Your old one has 3 terminals all in a vertical line. The new one has one terminal on the side. The old one had an internal jumper so when you turned it on, it put power to the light. Your new one does not. You try with a VOM testing to see if you turn it on you get a voltage between the ground wire and the switched hot wire.
If you do, you may need to attach another ground from the ground terminal to the chassis somewhere.
Also try switching the hot wires from top to bottom. You may have them reversed. The switch won't care which terminal is in and out, it will switch no matter what, but the light might.
