Oil Change 8.3L Cummins

Changed oil today. Part of establishing a baseline on our new to us coach. Put in the Castro 15W-40 Diesel oil on sale at wallyworld for $9.88/gallon. 6 gallons was just under $60. LF9009 filter just under $38 on Fleabay. $98 complete. Very happy guy here.

Good idea to change the fuel filters to. Might as well do the generator to.

Transmission filter change isn't a biggie, pretty simple in fact. Filter pack comes with full instructions, you won't need some of the gaskets. Be sure you get the right length filters. 2" pan takes 4" filters, 4" pan takes 6" filters. You need a torque wrench too.

Mine holds 6 gallons or 24 quarts. I bought my oil from Walmart for $9.88/gallon. My oil filter off of eBay. I placed a 55 gallon drum liner over my 16 gallon mortar mixing tub I purchased at Lowes. After the change I transferred used oil back into the empty jugs for recycling. I put kitty litter into the drum liner to absorb any loose oil. All in all my total cost was $98 vs. the $260 charged by local truck service centers for oil service.

Overall, this was as easy as changing oil in my car albeit larger scale.

Nobody has mentioned the air dryer filter. Engine air filter also.

Thats my project for this coming week. Went to Cummins and bought the oil filter. Will take it out for a short drive before, so i can get a good oil sample. I use Blackstone Labs. They do my diesel tractor as well. Just want to see if the engine is trending ok. I pay $34 for it. When we bought the coach 2 years ago i had a complete inspection, fluids and filters changed.....$1900 ! Now i do most of this preventive maintenance myself. Glad to see you are progressing well on the maintenance !!
