Voltage test

The voltage going into the Surge Guard was: B-G 119.2; B-W 120.1; R-G 119.0; R-W 119.0; G-W .63

So about 1/2 a volt showing on ground, maybe this is what is keeping the Surge Guard from kicking the power on (about 2/3 of the time it doesn't go on and about 1/3 it does). Give the kind of reel it is, not sure how I could clean the ground up.

Glendinning makes great products. We have the original, 1997 CM-7, on our boat. They also offer various models for operating in limited space.

Thanks all!

I'm going to take the cord reel out and over to an electrical shop. A tech at Southwire (who now owns Shorline) seems to think a shop can fix it up. I'll let you all know how that goes....

Shoreline cord reel follow-up

I took my Shoreline cord reel apart. The commutator and brushes were fine, but pretty dirty. I cleaned them up and replaced the ground bolt, it tests fine. The Surge Guard 34560 still goes through 3 cycles before it engages, but it does engage.

You must basically take the entire side off of the assembly to get the slip rings off. Drill out the rivets on the rectangular termination block inside the spool hub (to re-assemble, you need a long nose riveter). Then you can remove the brushes.

Then you must disassemble the side of the reel. Remove the bolting on the red square block and remove. Remove the fasteners that hold the large end panel and remove. Remove the bolts on the spool, bend the tabs and remove the round spool. Then the slip ring commutator can be removed.
