Protect entry step rise (vertical part)?

People keep scuffing the paint on the rise (vertical part) of our entry step, hitting it with their shoes as they go in and out of our coach. I'd like to touch it up and then somehow protect that surface from further damage. What have you done to protect that rise/vertical part?

I have the “3M” plastic coating on ours. This is good but not great. I have been looking at Summit Products stainless for the step and kick plates. Have you looked into this?

I recently saw an older Intrigue that had chrome step covers and kick plate. My initial impression was that I didn't like the mirrored/chrome look; it looked sort of odd to me. But, on the other hand I really don't like the scuffed up appearance, so I'll take a closer look at the Summit products. Thanks.
