Replace 2 burner cooktop w/3 burner

Searched but didn't find much: has anyone with a late 90's-early 00's CC that originally came with the recessed Princess cooktop (it's lowered in a metal surround, see photo) replaced it with a 3 burner Atwood cooktop or other/similar 3 burner style?

There's an Atwood whose dimensions look like a fit. We'd have to take the metal surround out & cut the bottom off to place the Atwood in (or something), but then would want to retain it since the corian cover fits perfectly on its tabs and it protects the corian/wood in the recess from heat, etc.

Are there issues with the "slide-in" type cooktop fitting? Has anyone done this (or had it done) with success who can share sage advice and/or photos? Thanks!!
