Replace shower cartridge in 2002 Allure

Our 2002 Allure shower valve got hard to pull on and push off. Knob shattered. Lots of inquiries and many searches to discover that the valve is a Price Pfister "Avante". Located the knob at Menard's, cartridge at Home Depot, and sleeve at Amazon. Later discovered that all three parts can be gotten from Amazon.

Shower Knob is a Sink & Tub/Shower Handle “H” Danco bar code 037155883912

Shower Valve Cartridge is a Danco 80550 Bar Code 3715580550 Price Pfister 974-292

Internal threaded chrome sleeve that holds the wall plate in place is Pfister 972-300A Bar Code 3887748021

Remove knob by prying out the center plug and unscrewing the philips screw that holds the knob on the valve shaft.

Chrome sleeve that screws on the outside of the valve body and holds the wall plate in place was impossible to rotate. Solution that finally worked was to slip a length of old radiator hose over the sleeve and hose clamp it in place. I put enough white vinegar in the hose to fill the interior of the shower valve body and let the vinegar sit for three hours. Then the sleeve could be unscrewed.

After removing the sleeve the nut that screws into the valve body to hold the cartridge in place can be unscrewed.

Note the orientation of the tab on the cartridge before removing the cartridge from the body.

Use silicone plumbers grease to lube the O-rings on the new cartridge before installation.

My 02 has a moen faucet. I called Moen and told them my shower faucet was frozen shut. They asked the model and age plus they wanted a picture . It has a lifetime warranty as do most faucets. They said they would send me a new cartridge or a new complete faucet for a very minor charge . I took the new faucet. It was identical to the old one. I didn’t mention that it was in a Motorhome they assumed it was in my house as they asked if I had another shower while I waited the week for the new faucet to arrive.

CC used a valve called a Moentrol valve. It is a Moen and parts are easily obtainable. If you want to go from one style, just change the cartridge. You can also change the surround like I did, I went from the old gold stuff to brushed nickel.

The big box stores don't have the parts needed so you will have to go to a good plumbing house

I can only speak for our 2002 Country Coach Allure 36’. Our shower valve appears to be the original valve. There are no signs that would indicate that the valve body has been replaced.

Identification of valve manufacturer appears to depend on the shape of the male cartridge shaft and corresponding female knob where the knob slides onto the shaft. Price Pfister Avante has the only shaft/knob configuration, that I have found, that matches our shower valve.

Below is a picture that attempts to show the shape of our shaft and knob configuration.
