I decided my 21 year old water pump was getting a bit noisey. So I bought a new one.

Exact same Model number.

But the new one has 4 feet and the old has 3 feet.

The old was mounted on a platform.

The only "easy" answer is to move the back end of the old pump to the new pump and fasten it down.

Has anyone had this experience and achieved success in a different way?

Well, with no responses, I re thought the approach and dismounted the old water pump and also the platform.

I drilled new screw holes for the feet in the old platform and re-installed the platform and then mounted the new pump.

The water connections and cleaning of the strainers was simple.

Trying to remove 7 screws and install 8 screws made the project last 5 hours.

Two of the new screws were blind installs. The cavity height would not allow my collection of phillips screw drivers to work upright. The angle of attack was from a prone position to get the hand and arm into the cavity.

Persistence conquered the beast of a job. Thank goodness I could work in my own driveway to do this replacement.....

I truly am getting too old for this stuff.

hi dean, i just read this...
since you have already done, my thought comes too late... i was to say, if you took out the platform, fasten the 4 legs onto the platform first, or used a sheet metal as a replacement of the platform, fasten onto it, then put the "platform" back in. could this be easier? mine is a flojet 04406-132 quad. i can see the cavity is certainly tight.

I could not get to the back side screws for the platform when the 04406-143 type IV pump was attached. So I gave up on that approach.

Installing the back side rear screw mounting the pump to the platform was a challenge that would have been mitigated by switching out the pump covers.

Screwing the pump to the floor, instead of the platform, was an option, but then the rigid output plumbing from the pump would not match up due to the height change. That would give more room for the screw driver to be upright but the modification of the plumbing would be an even larger problem in my opinion.

A really strong magnetic shorter Phillips screw driver would have been ideal for this project. I did not have one.

i have one of this in my tool box but never used it. now i know next time what i'm gonna use it for

That screwdriver looks like the cat's meow, but I suspect it is too short. I have a cheap North Korean version that was too short.

The perfect screw driver for my compartment would be less than 6" overall with a shank that is at least 2.5".

I am changing out my FloJet 4406-143 pump with a new one, same model. Hard un-screwing the philips head so I will be putting in SS 1/4 head, self tapping screws. I just ordered a new Repair Kit for the old pump and will keep it around as a spare..
