Replacing Fuel Sending Unit

Hello,
I'm sure there is some information on this subject but I can't find any. My fuel sending unit in the tank must be bad. My fuel gauge always stays at full. Any ideas on troubleshooting this issue or replacing the sending unit would be appreciated.
I have a 2008 Allure 470.

You may want to check the gauge after replacing my sending unit I found the gauge was the problem and its a lot cheaper then the sending unit.

If I remember right, if the gauge has power and the wire from the sender is disconnected it should read full. If you ground out the pin (or stud) that you removed the sender wire from the gauge should read empty.

On our 07 Magna, the Fuel Gauge was 'Not accurate!'. We were told to clean the top of the Fuel Tank's Fuel Gauge Sending Unit, which I did with lots of Simple Green, then after drying - followed up with unscrewing and cleaning each of the wire leads into the Sending Unit. (I even removed, one screw at a time, and used Emery Cloth to clean the connections.) It did not solve the 'less then accurate' Fuel Gauge reporting.

So I asked Premier RV Service to check it out, and the Tech confirmed a faulty Sending Unit. He use a 5 gallon bucket, and properly calibrated a new Sending Unit, then installed this unit - and we're probably within 5-10% accurate reading (I believe, more accurate towards the middle of the tank, then at the top or bottom range.). We typically live on the top 3/6th of the tank, rarely dropping down to 1/3rd of a tank...

Sure would not hurt to do a deep cleaning of the surface area at the top of the fuel tank's 'Sending Unit'. IF you do so, pull the 12V fuse before cleaning...

If you disconnect the wires to the sending unit and make sure they are not touching anything the gauge should read empty. If it shows empty its the sending unit. If still full disconnect the wire on the gauge that is not the power wire and it should go to empty indicating a short to ground on the sender wire.if it still shows full with the power wire on and no sender wire its the gauge.
I had to replace the sending unit on my 08 magna. Gauge was going all over the place when connected and just went bad one day.

Thanks for the input. I just brought the coach back to storage. Will look at next week.
I have been using the silverleaf for fuel and it works great. I just have to remember to reset every fill-up.

If its the same as the one in mine it is not a float but a aluminum tube sticking straight down with a element running down the middle. There is a part number on the unit.
