Road Trip to Eugene OR Summer 2019

As my user name implies, I live in Maryland. Ever since I bought the coach in Oct 2017, I have had it in the back of my mind to take a trip out to the Country Coach factory to get the things sorted I am not able to do, (body and paint work where the front shield used to be, and install a clear bra, Air leveling that works most of the time, but not 100%, front step that squeaks, and step warning light stays on , repair or replace Hurricane heater so it works 100% of the time (I have spent a lot of time on this one, I get it working reliably for a few weeks, then it faults), Seals on the slide outs are 16+ years old and should be looked at and probably replaced, same goes for the awnings. very miner leak in wet bay when the pump is on. Possibly adding solar, "if I have any money left"

I'm sure I missing a few things, but you get the Idea.

RV service near me seems slow to nonexistent, and no one knows Country Coach.

Well we started planing the Trip for next summer 2019 taking the northern route Detroit, Chicago area, Dakotas, Badlands, Denver, Salt lake city, Yellowstone, and eventually Oregon. Leaving the RV there, driving the car to Seattle, leaving it with family, flying home, coming back in January, getting the car, picking up the RV, and going down the West Coast to Sacramento, then east on the southern route home.

My question is this, Is Country Coach/Winnebago the right place for this work, or would one of the many other RV shops in Eugene (Like Guaranty or Premier) be a better fit. Would Jim Rixen be a better choice to look at the Hurricane (I understand he has a replacement unit of his design that also runs off of AC a very appealing prospect to me, if it needs replacing). Is there someone out there that knows solar that would be a better option?

Thanks in advance for your feed back.

Oregon Motor Coach (OMC), Carrier both on Airport Road, Eugene. You could talk to Kevin Waite, he works with Brian Schack. I think you could go on the Hurricane website and get a authorized repair person. We will be in the Oregon area May and August and Seattle June and July.

You have several options. We've used the Winnebago/Country Coach folks twice for a variety of repairs and have been very satisfied both times. There are folks who really like Oregon Motor Coach and others who speak highly of Premier RV which is next door to the Winne/CC facility.

Kevin Waite is excellent also. Since you want to leave the coach and have a lot of things done, you really need to find a shop that can do everything on your list. I do know Winne/CC is full service and they have great paint bays. I would call and talk to folks at these places and see who can handle all on your list.

We fortunately have had terrific experience with the Folks at Premier RV. They have done systems service and paint work. Everything has been done well and I a very comfortable recommending them. We have used Premier on 3 occasions and the work has been consistent.

It sounds like you have some good choices amongst the 3 so it will most likely come down to who you are most comfortable with.

We bought our coach and have had it serviced at Premier RV and have had an excellent experience all around.

The principals and most of the staff are former Country Coach employees. Their facility is on a portion of the original Country Coach factory property and next door to the Winnebago/Country Coach operation which is on another piece of the original plant site. They're plugged in to all the relevant parts sources and sub contractors. They do most everything.

Wheel alignment and frame work is taken to Kaiser Brake and Alignment in Eugene, an excellent shop in its own right.

We've never felt the need to explore alternatives.

They're busy, so make the appointment well in advance.

Welcome to Oregon for your trip!

All good replies for service work. OMC or Premier, is who I would recommend.

For Solar, you will be in the backyard of AM Solar (Springfield, Oregon). They are putting 1,080 watts of solar on my coach this next week, taking 2 days to complete it. Reasonable prices, and they are one of the best shops out there.

As with the others, make appointments as early as you can.

If you can, spend some time around Oregon between appointments, and either at the beginning or ending of your trip. It's quite a nice state to visit!

At least talk to Gary at Premier before determining where you will have it serviced.
I was there a few times with our Windsor and was very pleased each and every time. They seem to do things right once, not cheap but far better than getting it fixed again later.

Country Coach is their specialty.

AM Solar is a great place also. I would highly recommend scheduling your app well ahead of time and following up a few days out just to be sure.
Have had our coach there for a read out board.

Gaurenty i would NOT recommend unless your looking for a slight, very slight step up from a Camping World exp.
I have not ever had any of our coaches there, in full disclosure, just "word on the street" as they say.

Then when its all done head over to the Oregon coast, its a beautiful drive!

Not that it make any real difference to the responses but I got the unit in Oct of 2016, not 2017. I just had a brain F**t. and could not edit my post.

I will start looking into all of these suggestions, and start making phone calls. Thanks and keep um coming.

And yes we will be spending time in Oregon both on the way in and down the coast on the way out.

You mention going south to Sacramento in January and the heading east. You might rethink that and head down to Bakersfield and on down to I10 to head east.
I80 in January can have HEAVY snow so you will only be able to travel when there are weather windows. And, bring chains or tire socks and be prepared to use them.

Willee took the words out of my mouth.

Coming down I5 you cross over the Siskiyou mountain range. I've seen it closed for a day or two in the winter.

Not all campgrounds are open on I 80 in the winter.

I've run from California to Florida several times in January on I 10 with no problem.

Thank you for the heads up, being from the East Coast I am totally unaware of West Coast weather patterns. Of course I understand that there is snow in the mountains or lack there of which causes drought. We were hoping to go through Sacramento and visit some relatives, it looks like I could still do that and then continue down to Bakersfield and then across towards Vegas. Am I correct about that? That’s about as far as we’ve gotten with the return trip at this point still trying to get the trip they’re tucked away. But again thank you very much for the heads up

Correct. You can go from Sacramento down 99 to Bakersfield and then east to Las Vegas.

I believe you go thru Tehachapi mountains. That would be east on 58, takes you thru the desert. Check out Diners, Drive Ins and Dives for places to eat in Bakersfield. If your interested go to the M Casino in Vegas.
