Steering gear box leak - Mesa AZ

2002 Country Coach Affinity-Cat powered. Discovered the power steering gear box pushed out a seal in an access panel and dumped most of the available steering fluid onto the ground. The panel is a light weight metal circular hatch that is force-fit into the main gearbox body. Talked to OMC and they advised that the gearbox is no longer available but they may have found a source that is backlogged until April. Please advise if you know of a fix or a good diesel/chassis mechanic in the Phoenix/Apache Junction area. Rich McCune 805-714-5345. Looking for ideas....

I sent you a text message last night to that number you posted above.

They should be able to help you but… If they can’t help, they might know someone who can?

Good luck!

What steering box do you have???

Are you going to be in one place long enough to allow the box to be sent off for rebuild?

Steering gear box Shephard 110

Yes we can stay in Phoenix area for a rebuild. Have you experience with this problem?
Someone recommended WW Williams Diesel repair in West Phoenix.

Ok. Thanks for all the helpful posts. Now on to having the motorhome towed. What
do I need to watch for when they come to tow me. I know this is a tricky thing and only can be done without damage by a knowledgeable crew. Any suggestions is helpful. We have Roadside Rescue through FMCA.

Again, we don't know what steering box you have.

Most have the name and model embossed on them.

And, not much more difficult on most coaches to remove it where it sits rather than having it towed anywhere.

And some leaks can be fixed without even removing the steering box.

Said another way, I would have it towed ONLY after exhausting all other alternatives.

holyrollers, sounds like you have a shop location planned, but here's a old thread with related history on the Sheppard M110 steering gear box that some of us have already dealt with if you still want other inputs....
