TV removal and installation

I have 2000 Allure. In the next few weeks I want to remove the old TV and install something new. I have seen the threads on other manufacturers, but I would like to see some pics and get ideas from some of the CC owners, so I can come up with a game plan on my installation.

Thanks!

Did this install a few years back. I installed a Samsung 32" LED. After you remove the CRT TV you end up with hole in the headliner. The plywood panel hides this area.

Got the ideas from other member posts on IRV2.

Great idea! I thought about patching the hole, but I never thought about a whole piece that goes across the top, thanks for sharing!

Keep the ideas coming!

My Allure had a 37" Sharp TV up front. When it died, we replaced it with a 40" Samsung. The Samsung was wider but not as tall so it left a space at the bottom of the enclosure. So I got a Vizio sound bar that fit that space nicely and it looks pretty good. The Samsung fit in the opening without any modifications.

I did this identical upgrade on my 2000 CC last week and, if I say so myself it turned out fantastic. I bought this flatscreen mount off of eBay.

Tilt LCD LED Plasma Flat TV Wall Mount Bracket 15 17 19 22 26 27 30 32 37 40 42" | eBay

Works great.

Could you post some pics of your finished work? I'd love to see how you finished it off

I will post some in the morning. Too dark now.

Here's what I did...to mount my Visio 32-inch TV which weighs about 15 lbs. (very light)

1. I took the old TV out and reinstalled the frame.
2. Using a sharpie marker I reached into the opening and traced the opening outline.
3. Took off the frame and the sharpie marks showed the free opening. I did have 2 small blocks at the bottom of the open area and removed them.
4. I took a piece of 3/8-inch oak plywood (furniture quality) and cut it to fit within the area identified in #3.
5. I stained the plywood using a dark stain darker than the frame.
6. I drilled holes through the plywood into the frame without going through and mounted the plywood to the back of the frame that held in the old TV.
7. I dry fitted the frame with plywood attached. I had to trim some from the bottom and the bottom corners to obtain a flush/tight fit.
8. I reinstalled the frame using the 4 original screws.
9. I marked and drilled 3 more screw holes to securely attach the frame. 1 each in the middle of the top, left, and right sides.
10. I measured down 6 inches from my coach roof and marked the plywood. This was the top of the base plate of my mount.
11. I leveled and marked holes for the mount I purchased as shown in my previous post. The mount I purchased came with a magnetic bubble level. ENSURE YOUR COACH IS LEVEL BEFORE INSTALLING THE MOUNT! Don't ask me how I know. Lol.
12. I installed the mount using 1/4 x 1 1/4 bolts with lock nuts and large flat washers.
13. I drilled a 1 1/2 inch hole in the center of the mount for running cables.
14. I hung the tv using instructions supplied with the mount.

I had a small gap at the bottom of the plywood. I used a small square piece of wood that I stained a cut to length. I secured it using RTV sealant.

Pictures tomorrow will give you a better idea. When installed the TV is about 2 inches from the top of my coach.

Most importantly, my wife approved!

Thanks for the detailed steps, that helps a lot! I am not much of a wood worker so this will be helpful.

In the bottom picture I attempted to show the additional screw that I added in the middle of the top and each side. The frame is very secure and I have no qualms about it's solid mount. You could probably do a better match than I did with the stain on the plywood. I wanted a dark stain so the plywood was in a shadow and not obtrusive at all. The small wooden block you see at the bottom is how I closed the gap.

All in all I am very pleased with how it turned out. I tried to show how close the top of my TV was to the ceiling. Like I said in the description I recommend 6 inches from the top for the mounting plate. I put mine 5 inches and it was close getting the top of the TV with the mount attached to clear the ceiling. This height also ensures your TV isn't a head knocker when entering the coach with your head down.

Replacing the OH TV on my 08 Affinity

Here is what I did to replace my 48" LCD with the LED. I was lucky, I found a TV that was just about 1/2" shorter than my old one but hard to notice the space. It is on the top.

John, have you started on the TV. Here is a photo of mine, but would like to install a bigger screen. This was done by the PO many years ago.Click image for larger version

I haven't started yet. Works been busy so I haven't had a lot of free time lately. Yours looks nice, what size is it? Did they remove any of the cabinets? I have two cabinets to the passenger side of my tv, I am thinking about getting rid of one or making it a half size door.
