Water damage causing fiberglass delamination

We purchased a 2007 CC Affinity 700 custom from an auction site in OR. The exterior panels were removed for inspection by previous owner/insurance. Most of the damage from the water rotted out the wood frames around the two affected windows. It also caused the delamination and rusting of the steel frames with the moisture in the walls. The passenger side window and the lav window were the apparent water entry points. The time frame for water damage is unknown. From the photos you can see extensive damage. The inside was spared but when we start the restoration we will know more. There are a few videos on YouTube about my coach by two very well know youTubers. Brian’s RV videos about the Auction CC.

Please have your window seals checked yearly. I know that the Affinity flush/inset windows are more expensive and more difficult to work on. This may have contributed to the difficulties in obtaining a good seal around the frames in the first place or in subsequent yearly inspections. Assuming there were any.

The coach is presently at Premier RV in Junction City. ( back home for repairs). They are looking at the entire coach and I’m waiting for details on damage and needed repairs or upgrades. If anyone has details on previous owner “Doug Hill” and ask that they contact me please. I would love to send personal items that were left in the coach they might not have been able to retrieve once insurance bought the coach. Secondly to find out more of the history etc. of the coach.

I will keep this CC forum posted on the progress of repairs and what I learn for others to not have same problems with their coach. Until it’s on the road again and a new story can begin.

OMC in Eugene, OR is also one of the repair centers that have looked at the coach and have submitted a bid for needed repairs. This is a big and expensive repair and as always we should always get bids. Not only for price but also for expertise. Both Premier RV and OMC are well known in CC circles but as this is my first CC. They are both new to me.

Please chime in and let me know your experience with your issue. I know I’m not the first with this. On one of the Brian or Andrew videos discussing the Auction coach. They were at Premier RV next to another coach (Intrigue) with apparently the same issue. However it was mentioned that the water may have come in through the roof area above the lav. Very close to my coaches damage area below lav on wall between front and rear slides.

It’s not all bad. The coach is beautiful inside and out. The interior is gorgeous and has many upgrades already. Right now though I’m waiting for bad news from doctor so I’ll post pictures of inside and outside positives later.

Wow, I saw the video about this coach on YouTube. This was and hopefully will be a great coach again. Brian talked like he new exactly how to fix it and showed the Intrigue with similar damage. I suspect this looks much worse on the outside than it actually is.
I saw a similar coach being repaired in Mesa AZ a few years ago. Once they started it went well.

I have seen 5th wheel and slide in campers survive this.
Hopefully you picked it up at a reasonable price which I am sure you did
We had some water damage by the toilet on our 04 Intrigue. Have not opened it up yet. But have sealed the outside and have seen no moisture.
Monies have been spent ensuring coach was safe and secure. Cosmetics are coming next.
You brought the coach to the correct part of the Country. OMC an Premier know out coaches. We brought ours to Premier and helped support the Junction City economy

Hello Philip and welcome to IRV2. This is a terrific site to ask questions and gain insight into just about any issue you dare ask.

We bought a 09 Affinity from Premier a few years back. The team at Premier and Brian know these coaches intimately. When they look at these coaches they don't see the bling but rather the frame, wire, plumbing and such which makes there approach to working on them intentional as opposed to best guess. I've personally witnesses some CC's come into Premier in the shape yours is in and leave looking like they were new off the showroom floor.

I do not have direct experience with your model of RV but I can tell you from many water damage rebuilds on RV's and houses is that what you can see is only the tip of the iceberg. It is always more. I would be willing to bet that all those windows are leaking to some degree. I would make sure and re-seal them all before more areas start to delaminate.

Also something that came in really handy on my current rebuild project was a moisture meter. From inside I was able to pinpoint wet areas within the walls. Never tried it from the outside but it might work. Check under the windows, that foam insulation loves to hold moisture.

I am astounded that just leaks around the windows could cause that much damage. This coach must have lived in a very rainy climate most of its life. I guess Western Oregon or Washington would qualify.

Someone asked me about my original decision to buy this coach and my thought process...

No I was not the original buyer that first auction ending on Nov 3. That buyer was probably contacted by seller with a counteroffer and it wasn’t accepted. It was relisted two days later where I won it at 74K. It still did not meet sellers reserve as they contacted me with a counter offer that was 75K. I accepted and it sold officially at $75K. I feel that the amount was reasonable and within my budget. I wanted it to be at 50k too but it went higher but still ok for us. The Nada value for this unit is $218K+ And the range of similar units range from $170K - $290K on today’s market. Most units that we saw still needed new tires $4-7K in cost and several fogged windows which on Affinity’s could cost up to $9K if you change them all etc. My budget was at the lower end so this unit was attractive in many ways. I was able to test out this coach at Copart before the auction so I knew what condition everything was in. At least enough to bid on it. Whether at auction or a straight up purchase there is always a risk when you purchase a coach that items and issues need attention and will cost more money. I checked at both Premier and OMC both CC good star repair places before auction and got phone bids that informed me enough to make the purchase if I won. Will my unit have more issues other than “only” the passenger side repair. Of course but I feel that there is enough room to repair and upgrade coach for my family’s use and meet my budget needs and future value even with rebuilt or salvage title.

Obviously it’s a big decision to buy any coach at any price point especially if it’s at an auction with known damage. Everyone must make that determination for themselves. You ban buy a brand new Class A for 100K. Some people wouldn’t consider a used coach for any reason. I can see the benefits for a new coach mostly for the “I know the history and only I have used it” as well as the value of a used coach especially for CC that originally listed for $800K. I’m grateful that these options are available to most of us.
