Zip Dee window awning strap problem
Our Allure has Zip Dee slide toppers that double as window awnings when you grab the fabric pull strap with the hooked metal rod and pull the strap down to secure it to a metal cleat below the window. That deploys the awning over the window, and it all works fine. One thing really bugs us, though: when the window awning isn't deployed, the pull strap hangs down and flaps in the breeze against the side of each slide. It's a very noticeable and irritating sound in the coach. For other CC owners that have the same Zip Dee system, what have you done to keep that strap from blowing around?

Yup, Have the same problem. Hanging out the window with a piece of duct to tape the strap down solves the problem. Very simple.

You didn’t say how far your straps hang down when closed. Mine hang down 2-3in and don’t make noise. Not sure how Zip-Dee are secured but if it’s like Colorado’s, maybe you can reposition them on the slide roller so that they roll in more?

That may create a problem hooking loop on cleat.

They hang down about 8 inches and are sewn to the awning fabric in the middle, so they unfortunately can't be repositioned.

I like simple, but DW says no tape on the paint 😁.

When you release the awning, it curls back. At the moment about an inch left, tuck the strap under it. It'll be totally hidden when done. Next time when you need to pull it, you'd just need to know where to find it.
Our awning is a little different than yours, but the principle is the same. I do it everytime.

We do not have toppers, but the Zip Dee window awning roll up so that the strap loop is barely visible. Therefore no flapping occurs.
We have had a couple of occasions in the last 18 years where I needed a ladder to find the strap loop hidden in the roller.
Adding tension to your awning roller would likely put more of your strap into the roller and stop the flapping. Ours would.

Are you saying you're able to release tension on your strap before the awning fully retracts? On my awnings there is a great deal of spring tension on each awning and when I am retracting each one I have to keep tension on the strap with my hooked rod in order keep the awning from crashing into the closed position. (I accidentally let go of one once and I could tell it retracted overly hard and that I would not want to do that again.)

We also have a standard Zip Dee window awning that also does not have a lengthy strap and doesn't flap. It's just our combo topper/awnings that have this problem. We have a lot of spring tension on our combo unit, but the darn strap still hangs down and flaps around. Thanks for your input.

Not completely let it go, but if you are at the "the last inch", it will not bang if you do, then tuck it (you may need to stand on a ladder to tuck it if yours is too high). Our awning is older than yours though.
See photo below, can you see the strap? It's there.

My Zip Dee is not a topper, but on my awning, as the strap gets close, I pull the hook rod at an acute angle to the tube and let most of the strap roll up under the awning.

DUH, Learn how much you have to hold the strap at an angle for most of it to be coiled up in the awning but leave "just enough" to grab with the awning rod.
It works. I've been doing it for years. And it does improve the looks of your rig, not having something flapping like a rag stuck on a protuberance as you go down the road.
