2014 Cornerstone on new/upgraded K3?

I'm new here, have been reading for a while, just decided to post as I can't find my answer. We are planning to purchase a Cornerstone in the next 12-18 months. I see that their new 2014 brochure shows a new front axle under the K3 chassis. But I can't find the 2014 K3 chassis spec sheet anywhere. Not even on the Spartan website. Has anyone seen it, can send it to me? I'm an engineer and the little things are very important to me, like extra weight carrying in the front. Here's what the online brochure from Entegra says it has on it now:

Reyco Granning front axle 20,000-lb. wide track

Can anyone at least confirm that this is true? I will wait to get a 2014/15 if so as definitely want that new front axle if it truly is there. 2013 and before was only 16.6k from what I'm reading everywhere.Nice to have an extra 3400lbs of CCC I would think.

harleyman,

One thing that Entegra is known for is making "in-line" changes. Meaning they frequently don't wait until a new model year to add features and will make the changes "in line". A quick call to Entegra (800-945-4787) should get you the answer you want.

As absolutely great as Entegra is, the one area they fall a little short is having updated brochure/website info. Which, from an owner perspective is the one place I'd be ok with...but as a potential owner many can understand your frustrations.

Give them a call as they'd be happy to answer your questions!

Lastly, your post is in the Jayco forum...you may want to email a moderator and have them place this into the "Entegra" forum where you'll get plenty of answers on this and other questions you may have.

Good luck.

We were in Middlebury last month and I noticed that the new Cornerstones had much wider front tires (395's?) vs the 315's that were standard in 2013. We were told that the front suspension had indeed been upgraded and the wider tires were added. I'll bet that new configuration not only permits more carrying capacity but rides like a dream. Definitely call to get the particulars.

Is this from 2013 or 2014 specs? Because I called Jacob at CS and he said they definitely upgraded the front axle to a 20K. This says 18K. See, this is why I posted the question in the first place. It is so confusing. But, I cannot get ANYONE to send me the actual spec sheet. I have written to Spartan today. I'll see what transpires there. Thanks for the post, but now I'm more confused than ever. Even Entegra's website says 20K front, but not on a spec sheet, just on the website. Hmmmmm......... wish they had better documentation.

If I were to guess, the discrepancy may be due to the tire size. Noted that the quoted literature stated that the 315/80R22.5 were equipped on the Cornerstone. The 315's have a capacity limit that is not necessarily tied to the weight rating of the axle. Going with the larger 365's will provide additional capacity.

According to the Michelin America website (Michelin Americas Truck Tires XZA®1 Page), at full inflation, the max weight the 315's can take is 9K pounds each. That translates into 18K for a two wheel axle. Please note that the tire weight rating is not related to the physical capacity of the axle. From an engineering perspective, the axle could have a 50K capacity but it all the tires will carry is 20K, then the rating is 20K. All other thing being equal, tires with a wider section width (365 vs. 315) have a greater weight capacity. IMHO, they have installed the 365's on the front end in order to provide additional weight bearing capacity to achieve the 20K weight rating.

For what it is worth, Jacob also told me (while we were in Middlebury) that Entegra was going to the 20K IFS front suspension. This is the "standard" configuration for the K3 according to the Spartan website. Jacob also told us that Entegra was going with the 365 tires in the front vs. the 315 tires as the 2013 configuration. (The promotional literature may not be complete with final model year changes or there might be an error -- we pointed out an error with one of the configuration options in the literature while we were in Middlebury.) While we were at the Spartan RV Owners course, the team there told us that owners were concerned with the amount of weight on the front end of the coaches vs. the rating. After getting the coach weighed there, we were within 1K of the axle rating and hadn't packed every nook and cranny. The Spartan team tried to assure us by stating that the front axle had been re-rated (18K vs. 16.6K) although no one was handing out any corrected stickers to apply to our coach.

Hope this helps.

While that was a 2014 Brochure, I suspect it might be at least 3 months old. Entegra upgrades on the fly. If Jacob told you the standard had changed to 20K, you can bank on it.

I'm at RVOne in Orlando right now picking up some parts for my motorhome. Robin has a 2014 Cornerstone delivering this Monday on their lot right now.

Yes, this one has the 20,000lb front end with the 365 tires. (Same thing Prevost runs), and 315 tires on the rear and tag.

Entegra also has installed a DEF tank "trap door" in the rear of the coach bay door. This will come in handy filling the DEF tank.

Looks like Entegra also modified the front wheel wells of the Cornerstone, because these huge tires fit nicely.

Glad to hear the DEF tank has moved, passenger side rear is stupid unless you want to buy it by the box and pay thru the nose.

That is great news on the front axle AND the DEF tank. If some one sees another Cornerstone with the new front end, would you kindly post some pictures of it to this thread or send directly to my email (just got the notification that this posted yesterday for some reason. Otherwise would have asked you to quickly snap some phone pics). Either way. I would greatly appreciate it. I don't ever get to see them here in Coeur d'Alene, ID. Literally the nicest thing around here for sale is a 40 Phaeton. Not bad, but definitely not what I'm buying. Especially after learning from all of you about Entegras. Thanks for the verification on the new front though. Makes me really happy I didn't buy that 2013 a month ago and decided to wait.

BTW if someone is looking, there is a brand new 2013 in Fife, WA in Golden Splendor for a killer price. Search RV trader. I had a deal made on it for less than $400k and I backed out at the last minute, decided to wait for another year. Not going to get much use of it in the next year till the last kid is graduated from HS and goes to the Marine Corps. So we decided to wait, even if it costs us a bit more. Glad we did, now we will get bigger GVW. That means I can haul more toys. Yea!!!!
