LOve Greyhawks
We have a 2013 31DS. This is our 2nd Greyhawk and we love it. We also have a problem with the Girard tank less water heater making shower water too hot. I am complaining to Girard, Jayco too but am putting most of the responsibility on my dealer to fix it. Once the hot water heater is fixed, I’ll be a happy camper. I did one short MPG test and came up with 8mpg. However, there are so many variables on the road, wind, curves, traffic, hills and road conditions that it’s hard to expect any number. I just enjoy driving and let everything else take care of itself.

I had issues with the Girard water heater also. Spoke to dealer, Jayco, and Girard. It seems that if the ground water is warmer, such as a warm climate area in the summer, it will cause the water to be too hot. After several test, the only option was to take off the water restricter/reducer to allow a higher water pressure. The extra water flow helps reduce the temp. Most of the time the water heater works well. Just have to be careful during the summer. I haven't had any issues during spring or fall camping.

I was also told that the amount of water flow would change the temp so I experimented. I removed my 45psi pressure regulator and installed a 50-55 psi with no change in results. I then connected to city water without any regulator at all and still no change. Only one thing works. Run cold water in the bathroom while you shower and it’s perfect, but what a waste. Well back to the drawing board.

Your shower has a water restriction built in. It is located where the shower hose go's into the cold/hot control base. Remove shower hose drill out restriction, worked great on mine.

Does that water restriction just restrict water flow?? I don't have a problem but would not object to more pressure in our shower ....

Yes increases flow. When we had our 2012 Greyhawk there was also a hi and low setting up to the right as you come thru the door, but when I increased water flow it really helped.

How does running cold sink water decrease the hot scalding shower temp? I don't see any logical reason ?? Help educate another scalding Jayco victim?

I was told that the water heater is designed for 1gal of water per minute, but the fixtures are designed for 1/2 gal per minute. That's why when you turn on another fixture balances out. I will be contacting jayco for a better solution.

If you are correct then Jayco is responsible for putting in a water system incompatible with their plumbing system and should correct it. Let me know what you find out. My dealer will be interested too.

Has anyone looked into the cost of replacing the Girard with a conventional 6 gallon gas water heater? Girard sent a "fix" for mine that didn't help. This is an exterior switch and is supposed to reduce the temperature. After 18 months of being scalded, I'm ready for something different.

Check in the Jayco Owners forum. I believe someone there had it done.
