Back air conditioner

My back airconditioner on my 42DS04 runs fine for a couple of hours. Then the compressor stays on and very little if no air comes out of the vents. I remember the old Fords in the 80's that this would happen to. They would freeze up and no air would come out of the vents. I have a feeling it is a simple solution, but before I get up there and take the cover off, I want to half way know what I am doing. Thanks, John Brandon

Could be as simple as a clogged air filter. They are located in the cover in the ceiling, just take it out and wash it, that MAY fix the problem. That, at least is the. Simplest thing it could be. Good luck.

Could also be that someone removed the air filter and the evaporator coil is full of lint, which would need to be removed.
The HVAC industry has a tool for this it's called a"Fin Comb".

While you're up there, take some time to clean the coils. You can get A/C coil cleaner at HD/Lowes and just spray it on the coils-inside and out and let it sit before washing off. This should be done annually...makes a big difference in amp draw with a clean coil.

Brandon, I asked an HVAC guy who owns a Duotherm unit on his RV and he said you may have a bad board. Something about the two fan speeds competing for run time when the board goes bad. He says this is a common problem and a new board is readily available at most RV supply stores.

Make sure your thermostat for the rear air fan isn't set to AUTO. If I leave mine in AUTO they change speeds constantly it seems and most often I find it in LOW all by itself... I switch mine to HIGH or MEDIUM and all is well.

More than likely the unit is icing up. This is a problem with all AC units depending upon the humidity of the air. It happens more if the unit is set too cold and runs all the time. To help the problem turn the unit on to heat for a few minutes and the coils will heat up and melt the ice. This also can happen with home window air units, especially if ther are set at a cold setting and the units run a lot. You also see the results with your car AC when you stop, shut the car off and see a puddle of water form underneath the car. It is the ice melting from the cooling coils. Thanks, Dave W

Solved

The problem was that the "sensor" that sets the air conditioner on hot to melt any ice in the coils was pulled out. It is a little flat thing that just sticks in the coils to tell the air conditioner to "recycle". Technician just reached up in there and problem solved. Didn't cost me a thing. That's the kind of tech that you want. He also fixed a bunch of wiring "meltdowns" that occured when I had an exhaust leak onto a clove of wires. That was pleasant!!!!! Thank for all the advice fellows. JB
