Catstrap Install

Lost my storage site where the owner lived on-site and have to move to a less secure location. SOooo, I decided to install a Catstrap-brand catalytic convertor “theft deterrent” device; FWIW- here are a few pics of the install just for your amazement (or amusement) LOL. It took my grandson and I about 2 hours to do the job after I ran the rig up onto my homemade 6” ramps on the passenger side. Welded-on attachment points would have made for a LOT neater job but no welding capability here at my pay grade plus it is (mercifully) out of sight.

Cost just over $200 counting a small bag of metal Zip ties. The directions are OK, but be aware that the shank for the supplied bit (for the 4 security bolts) is hexagonal; my batt-powered impact nut driver with a short extension worked slick. Two people make feeding the 40 feet of cable back and forth through all 16 holes in the clamps a lot more doable. If I ever need to remove the device, I will be going after my angle grinder; I doubt the cable is removable/reusable once the “clamps” have deformed it in 16 places.

You will likely have to click on the pics once or twice to enlarge them for reading the annotations.

Good times and safe travels, all.

After all this time, I just now realized that I inadvertently referred to my CatClamp install as a Catstrap. My bad. I was considering the Catstrap but decided to install the CatClamp instead. I guess the mind is the second thing to go. :^)

Best..............

They work! I have a camera and it shows someone looking underneath and walking away.
You might want to use high temperature paint and put your name or VIN or Phone Number on the CAT. If stolen, police can use it as proof if found.
