Vehicle engines have not had "generators" for more than 40 years. You've got an alternator light on.
So, either the alternator is shot, the regulator is shot, or the accessory drive belt (what used to be called the fan belt) is shot or loose. There are plenty of automotive electrical repair shops around that can diagnose and fix this issue. Or if you're handy you could remove it and take it in to a shop to have it tested.
One thing - if it's the drive belt, then you'd probably loose power steering, radiator cooling fan and water pump. That is something you'd have to take care of immediately. As in, not drive it another 1/10th of a mile.
You should probably assume it's the alternator and if so, that means if you drive it more than a few miles the battery will die and you'll be stranded. So, whatever you do you should find out what's going on ASAP.
