Jayco Seneca DEF problems

2019 Jayco Seneca, 8,000 miles. I was 5 miles from home after a trip to North Eastern New Mexico. Had driven non-stop 6 hours and stopped to get my wife flowers for Mother’s Day. Yellow check engine was lit up for the last 2 hours. Got back to the RV and it went immediately into limp mode. 5246 and 1761 codes. DEF problem. Had to have it towed to Transwest in Brighton Colorado, about an hour away. Transwest and Freightliner handled the problem in 36 hours all under warranty, including a $1,200.00 tow. I have to say their service was excellent and very much appreciated. That said, it really pisses me off that an emissions problem will put you into limp mode, 5 mph possibly in a very remote area. It seems emissions problems are the biggest problem on modern RV’s. This should NOT cause someone to be stranded in BFE. Kudos to Freightliner and Transwest for the job they did. Big thumbs down to the a-holes who think this is cause for stranding someone. I hope the new DEF head is improved. I’ve heard thousands of people have had this same problem.

I have a 2019 Renegade Valencia on the same chassis and just had the DEF head issue with about 15k miles. The underlying cause of DEF Head failures on the Freightliner S2RV is that the coolant lines are crossed going to the DEF tank so it’s not shutting off coolant flow and overheating the DEF head. I would verify with the servicing dealer that they checked the coolant lines to avoid further issues.

Happy Travels!
