Motorhome fraud?
We took the plunge a few days ago buying a new Jayco Precept after many years of towing trailers. We did our research for weeks and decided on new instead of used to have the latest technology. We decided on the '16 for coach improvements and the 6 speed transmission. Now I discover the 2016 we purchased has a 5 speed. Do I feel stupid! I plan on contacting Jayco and the dealer tomorrow. Does anybody know anything about what direction I should go with this? This is now a used coach so I don't expect them to do anything but give me some sort of lip service. Should I contact a lawyer? Any suggestions?

Does you paperwork state you purchased a 5 speed, or a 6 speed? Was the 6 speed offered as an option?

No fraud, very common for an RV to be built on a chassis one or two years old. Federal law requires it to be registered as per the completed vehicle MCO, so it will be registered as a 2016 even though built on an earlier year chassis. The RVIA has a page on it and the FMCA magazine has covered it too.

Paperwork
Paperwork says nothing regarding transmission. It only has the year make model and options. No options on trans or any drive train components. I purchased based on the brochure for the '16 I received from the dealer. Brochure states 6 speed with overdrive and tow haul mode. Old '15 brochure states a 5 speed. It's is a '16 chassis.

Thanks Mr D but it is deceptive sales to state a 2016 is a 6 speed and it is not. What else is not according to the brochure? How far can they go with this?

Did they state that in the purchase contract? Otherwise you have little to stand on even if the brochure stated it had a 6 speed as they will also state that they reserve the right to make changes during a model run.

Paperwork
Nothing but vin, serial number, model etc. I am very disappointed with this highly regarded dealer due to the fact that he knew what I was looking for. Sad the powers to be allow this to happen. Oh well I it's new and I can deal with it. It is a nice coach. It would have been nice to have gotten what I bargained for especially for resale value.

You didn't drive it first and verify the number of shifts?

I would wager that you will find your 16 Coach is actually built on a 15 chassis. Have you contacted the dealer? If so, what do they have to say? Why wasn't the problem discovered prior to delivery?

I certainly would think the specifications in the brochure have some legal weight. Automotive sales people can say anything they want, but once you get something in print the game changes.
Keep us posted.

Drive
Yes but just locally and was too preoccupied with everything else to be counting gears. You know the saying regarding assuming? Well here I am. I bought off the brochure never dreamed the specs would be different. Live and learn.....just too darn old to still be learning like this.

My RV is "missing" some of the standard items listed in the brochure. I was told that everything is subject to change. If is is not on the build sheet you have no recourse, at least that is what I was told.

Lessons
I agree the paperwork should reflect the brochure. It may be just what they can get away with. Buyer beware. I will be at the dealer tomorrow and calling customer service and will follow with a post up as soon as I get to the end of this adventure. Thanks for all your help.

How long have you had it? How many miles have you put on it?
I'd contact the dealer and express your displeasure and see where it goes.
