Precept 31UL outside storage cabinet melting

New to this forum and just wondering if any other Jayco Precept/Alante motorhome owners have experienced this issue. Both my son and I are recent owners of the Jayco, mine a 2018 and his a 2017 model year with the same problems. The catalytic converter is melting the plastic floor of the front passenger side storage cabinet. We just picked up our Precept in June 2017 and left for vacation 2 weeks later. Our son went on the same trip in his motorhome and experienced the same issue.

I believe that it's supposed to have a heat shield over it, What did the dealer say about the issue?

Dealer states they will take care of it. But what we find most interesting is that Jayco states they have heard of this! Heard of it but have not notified owners/dealers ?

Same problem

We noticed something hanging from the bottom of our Jayco Allante MH, and thought it was a piece of tape. My husband checked it out, and the same thing you describe happened. We returned from a trip on Sept.6. Husband states we were lucky we didn't have a fire. Have you talked to your dealer, and if so did they say what is going to be done to fix the problem?

I am so grateful for this forum, knowing that we are not the only ones. Let's hope Jayco will notify everyone.

Precept melting

Jayco representative says they will work with dealer to correct the problem. However they want us to install a heat shield to avoid fire danger before driving it to the dealer. This is something my husband can do fortunately, but I still have concerns about voiding any warranty if he does this and I am pursuing having Jayco pay for towing to our dealer. it is about 150 miles to dealer so not sure how Jayco is going to feel about that!

So cats run warm, but to have it melt somethi g more than a couple inches away seems to say that the engine may be running rich, maybe a misfire or clogged air cleaner

melting plastic

Desert Fun,

We can't get anyone to touch the catalytic converter. Various muffler shops and RV repair said it was a safety issue, and they don't even think they make a shield to cover it. Our dealer is also 2 hours away, and we don't want to take the risk of driving it.

I was wondering if you have had any progress with your repair yet?

Thank you

melting storage compartment

DJGriswold, Do you have pictures of the melting plastic, and how they are going to fix it?
We were finally able to get a local RV Repair to install a heat shield, and repair the storage bin. They just received authorization, so now we wait.

I can't seem to upload the pictures of our damage

didn't take pics but the hole was only about 3inches, never bothered with the dealer they seem to be useless been waiting 4 months to get the in dash stereo replaced under warranty and still waiting, i plan to do some plastic welding to cover the hole right now i have adhesive heat shielding on both sides of the hole i wouldn't expect any thing more from the dealer/jayco for the repair since the basement is one complete piece .....fingers crossed for ya..

melting storage compartment

Glad you caught yours before it did to much damage, although 3 inches is still a good size. As soon as we get the repairs done, I will post more pic's with what they did. Thanks for all the information.
