Question Precept shore power cord

Everything works with generator running. When hooked to shore line, we have 110 but no 220. A friend checked the Hughes Watchdog and it shows 125-125/240 output. So now we’re thinking it could be the RV’s 50amp power cord itself. Has anyone else had this issue?

i'd love to help but you are going to have to provide more info.

i'm assuming a built in generator with a built in transfer switch. since this works the problem in on the shore power path somewhere up to the transfer switch.

you say you are getting power on the watchdog output. my understanding is that they report only on the incoming power. are there any error conditions on the watchdog that would keep it from passing power? is the watchdog portable and plugged into the pedestal before the shore power cable, or is it built in with the shore power cable plugged into the pedestal?

do you have a multimeter and know how to measure 120 volt power? obviously with a meter you would simply measure the 120 volt power along the incoming shore power path to see where it drops out.

one last thought. since you appear to be 50 amp and you installing the shore power cord properly into the rv receptacle?

insert it, twist it, and secure with the locking ring?

Do you have a cord reel? If so, it could be the contacts in the reel.

Cord is not on a reel.
We’re now thinking it might be the male plug on our power cord

We do have an on board generator. Everything works fine with it. The shore power is only providing 110 and not 220. And it is plugged into 50 amp.

If the coach end of the 50 amp cord is not built into the RV, test the female end with your voltmeter.

Two outer straights are the hots
Center straight is the neutral
Center round is ground

So between either outer and either center= 120 VAC
Outer straight to outer straight= 240 VAC
Center straight to center round= 0 VAC

If the coach end of the 50 amp cord is built into the RV, test at the IN side of the ATS.

Let us know what you find

I had a problem with my Hughes watchdog. The contactor inside wasn't pulling in all the way, it pulled in cocked and only allowed one leg to have power on the outlet side.
