Secure the door for Jayco 225MLS
Our Jayco 225MLS trailer did not include a latch to secure the exterior door in an open position. There is just a post attached to the exterior of the trailer to keep the door from hitting the exterior wall of the camper, and the door is stiff to open and usually stays in place. When there is a good stiff breeze, the stiffness of the door does not hold it open, instead the door slams shut. There is no way to safely secure the door in an open position. I can see this as a safety hazard if we (or the grandkids) standing on the steps or has their hands on the jam. Has any other owner had this issue? I would think it would be a simple fix to just get a latch and attach it to the door. Looking for suggestions on a product to use. I'm alittle skiddish about drilling into the door, but taking back to the dealer is a joke. They've never fixed anything right for our trailers.

Are you sure the stop bumper doesn't swing out to latch it to the edge of the door? If it doesn't then the only other thing you can do is install the t-type latch. When drilling into the door or the wall be sure to find something solid to fasten into.

Thank you for your feedback, I tried pulling, pushing it, it's stationary. It's just a post that is screwed into the side of the camper. Our previous camper had a latch you described.

I've attached a couple of pictures - one straight on (the picture is on it's side) and the other is a side shot. there isn't anything on the front of the door to catch this post. So I'm stumped. I appreciate your thoughts

you have what is called a friction hinge door.
They don't provide latches for that style but you can add one yourself.
Just buy the kit and screw it on the door and wall.
The point of the friction hinge is to keep the door from slamming and staying where you opened it too. As you found out a good wind can still move them.

The winds we have around here lately even those t-type holders get pulled out of the door or the wall.

Thank you for putting a name to this! I asked why the door was so stiff when we picked it up and didn't get a good answer from the tech guy that walked us thru the delivery process. LOL he moved the door back an forth a bit, I guess to try to loosen it up. Yikes.... I'll be getting the kit.

I've had those thoughts too -I've seen plastic and metal kits on Amazon and I'll be installing a metal kit. Hopefully that will hold up better. With some of the winds we've experienced we'll be keeping the door closed.
