Every state is different, some of the stricter ones require the gun to be at leas partly disassembled and ammo to be stored in a separate compartment.

There are sites that give you good info on this issue. For instance, check out handgunlaw.us, which has a page dedicated to RV issues. You should be OK in most states that don't recognize your permit if your weapon and ammo are locked separately in the vehicle, under the federal FOPA law.
Notable exceptions: Don't stop overnight in New York, because the way they interpret FOPA you have then made NY your destination and you're no longer transporting THROUGH the state. And carrying hollow point ammo into New Jersey is bad, bad, bad.
Anyway, good luck. There are states that are very nice, too.
Good luck.
Roger

Leave the firearms home. If you have to hide them or try to sneak them through unfriendly states and you don't have ready access to them what good are they to you anyway?

So what do full timers do? We have camp hosted in NY and will be going back next summer again. We haven't had any issues traveling anywhere in the US, even with our TX licenses plate. Just use common sense.

Just because you haven't been caught, doesn't mean you are not in violation of the law.
I do what I feel is right. The only time someone will know I am carrying is when there is a need to draw the weapon. LEO will be along soon after the situation is over to fill out the forms. They are there to protect individuals or personal property.

I installed this gun safe by Gun Vault in our View 24v. Not theft proof but my install will slow a thief down. Action is not silent, click and thunk when opened. Will hold a 45. Sorry but I can't find the video I made. Regards, Mike

I installed a HOMAK safe in my RV.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
When I am not carrying, I use it to lock up my pistol.
It is also big enough to put other stuff in like jewelry, cash, and checkbook. I sleep with the pistol within reach as the RV is my "home" when parked. I check online resources frequently when planning trips to understand local laws. I also have a booklet (although dated) that I keep in the RV.

My advice is to take this topic seriously, I have an old friend from high school (best man at my first wedding) that was an in the military, he was in his 20's driving through DC with a Glock 17 in the trunk of his car in the early 1990's, was pulled over for a traffic violation, asked if he had any weapons in the car, said yes, a knife (expensive) in the back seat and a gun in the trunk. He found himself face down on the pavement and spent 48 hours in a DC jail before he was able to be bailed out. He was able to avoid any other jail time, first offence from out of state and all that, but still not a pleasant experience. He went on to have a successful carrier in the army and retired as a full colonel last year.
p.s. the knife went missing, never turned into evidence, etc.

Securing Firearms in Class C
There was a good article on this in the September issue of MotorHome magazine.
Suggest USCCA membership for anyone who travels with firearms for protection.

Ours are stored in a small electronic lock safe in the back of a wardrobe.
That is the short and sweet answer. But you need to research each state as to whether it has to be secured or can you have it loaded or even poses a firearm without a state permit. Do your home work.
