Nice fix. I too would do this vs. buying a new one.

My parents owned a motel and they had wall mounted air conditioning units pretty much identical to these roof mounted systems. I got pretty good and silver soldering in fittings to be able to evacuate/vacuum and charge these systems. Granted that was back when the R22 was no where near the cost it currently is though. It would still be cheaper to fix vs. replacing but at some shops labor rate and lack of willingness to attempt it may be more practical to replace.

Mike.

Old School fix.

The Hard Start kit was a great addition also. I kept it on there it fit perfectly. 15oz sounds right I remember we weighed in the charge and with the addition of the filters we added another oz or so.

I'm glad I have heat strips, we deal with reversing valves getting stuck all of the time at work.. We have mountain top sites and we have replaced nearly all of them. I'm not sure why someone would prefer a heat pump, and I don't mean to offend anyone. Just a question? In Calif we just use the furnace for a few minutes and that's about it.

No offense to me, the heat pumps came along with the used coach We have never ran them because when we need heat we use the Aqua Hot!

The only problem we have had with the reversing valves is the one in the bedroom use to revert to heat after a few hours of running. This would happen maybe every 4-5 months, but it hasn't happened in at least 18 months.
