04 Windsor Backup Camera Cable

I need to run a new 65' cable from my new backup camera to the Sony dash monitor. No problem getting the cable from the dash monitor and then along the underside of the coach to the rear engine compartment. However, it appears that the rear cap housing the backup camera is fully encased. How do I get from the engine compartment up to the camera location at the top center of the rear cap? 2004 40' Monaco Windsor with an inoperative Aladdin system.

I'm doing something similar to my '02 Windsor. Where the roof of the engine compartment meets the back wall they used foam to seal the area. This morning I used a ice pick to probe and found that angled I could pass the pick thru easily.


I am side radiator so it is easy access but as you can see in the pictures I just took you can then use fiberglass wire feed rods to push up to the top of the inside of the cap. Should be easy to grab and then feed your camera cable up from there.


I am going to use trailer frame wiring clips to run the cable along the side of the frame rather than try to feed thru the center. Mine is just too tight for that.....

When I tried to run a wire for my Brakemaster brake light from back to front I gave up trying to get it through the chassis rails and ran the wire on the drivers side up high right below the door, drilling small holes between the compartments.



This year I decided to install the FASS transfer pump and add a pressure fuel gauge so I bit the bullet and ran a piece of 3/4" conduit, pushing it from the front above the generator compartment passenger side between the rails. Had to drop the center compartment ceiling but was able to get it through. Glad I did because later I added the Bluesea ML-ARC and needed an extra wire front to back so I actually ran a group of 5 wires through it and now have 4 extras for future use.

Thanks Glenn for the awesome response. After my morning coffee, I set out to follow your instructions. I attempted to use my fish tape but it was too limber and would not run true...stalled by the fiberglass insulation in the cap. I then ran a 1/2" piece of conduit to the camera location and put my fish tape thru the conduit. Worked like a charm. Just waiting on the cable from Fedex now to complete the job. Thanks again!

More power to you! I read your original post for this install. WOW Not an easy task. I'm thinking that a tube that size would be easier than a fiberglass rod. Less chances for it to get hung-up on/in tie-wraps or bundled wire junctions. I cheated and took the easy way out.... Relying on frame clips to hold the wire out of harms way.

If I ever have her up on a lift or over a pit I might give it a try. Too bad the factory didn't foresee someone wanting to add wiring and just provide a path....

When you push the fiberglass rod up into the upper compartment it will come out behind the hole the rest of the wires come thru. Using 3/16 in rods from Harbor Freight I was able to grasp the end and pull it thru the hole and out the opening of the removed camera housing.

A little hard to see but it can be done!
