04 Windsor starter issue

I have an 04 Windsor that has a new starter, and sometimes that starter will not engage. I made this recording explaining the problem; https://www.loom.com/share/e342b2701...f1a99f3c2600f4

Thanks for your help,
David Emmons

Your inverter shouldn't be causing your intermittent starting problem.

You may have already done this, but I would check each cable connection from the starting battery all the way to the starter for corrosion or loose. Just a little corrosion will restrict the high amp load the starter will require.

The starter mounted solenoid gets its power from a starter relay, between it and the batteries.
That relay ( controlled by the key ) may be failing.

Its a standard looking solenoid, like ones used on Ford cars. They tend to tuck them in back there so you need to find it.

When its in its no crank mood, tap that relay with a hammer handle and then try. If it starts, you may have found your problem.

Thank you so much for that suggestion Twinboat. I will see if I can locate the relay. David

Glad you got it fixed.

And thanks for posting the results. So many times folks ask a question and then we never hear from them again, leave us wondering if they solved their problem, and how they were able to fix it.

Had the exact same problem on our rig...unfortunately it was right after we bought it and after eating dinner at a restaurant.

Was able to get it started using the booster switch and pulled into an auto store parking lot. Bought two new batteries...still wouldn’t start. Next morning bought a bunch of tools and tightened all grounds and hot connections. The hot side of the starter took 21 mini turns!!! Boom! Fixed!

None of my business but I think that shop owes you dinner....

Glad it was something simple and you weren't in a pull-out on the side of the road.

Yup, exactly our problem. I ‘almost’ want to include checking ALL connections on yearly (bi-yearly?) maintenance routines.

I love finding easy fixes like the one I found this weekend...awning went out but not back in...found oxidized ‘red’ wire in the control box on the Carefree Mirage 120v awning. Win!
