Hello all,

I'm new to this forum and am looking for my first motorhome. We are pretty set on a 40 ft DP and happen to come across an 06 Beaver Monterey Huntington at a dealer. It's very clean but I have not gone much further in the process. My wife thinks it's too old, but it looks like a nice MH that is well built. Any thoughts on this particular model. It has 3 slides and the 400hp engine.

I own a 2000 Beaver Marquis and would do it again, Beaver Brand is a High End Coach just need to be aware of the year in question for the Cummins engine it MAY HAVE. Do your research.

I'm pretty sure it has a Cat engine instead of a Cummins. The wrist pin problem is on the Cummins.

I have the Cat C12 in mine. I would prefer the Cat product over a Cummins. Check out this 40 footer with a tag also a Beaver coach

Well we have a 4 slide 06 Monterey and it is amazing. Great features and quality far more than most new coaches. I have the C9 engine as well and it purrs along ! We get compliments all the time as well. If yours has been reasonably cared for I would have no hesitation to purchase again !

I saw that Beaver posting the other day - seems too cheap for a 40-footer with tag doesn't it?
What do you think? Maybe flood damage from hurricane.

Also, did the 2003 Beaver have the IFS and front Disc brakes?
If not, what year did they switch to IFS?

Bruce, I have a 2006 Monterrey Huntington IV. The 400 C9 is a very good engine. I would rather have that than the 425HP C9 of later years. It has a Huey System that needs to be taken care of by using Cat fuel filters and regular filter changes. It will probably last longer than the rest of the coach if properly taken care of.

If your coach has an Aqua Hot insure that is working correctly, run it for a couple hours and make sure there are no issues and all three zone pumps work. If so you will love that feature.

I love my Beaver. It drives like a dream, does not get pushed around by trucks when I'm passing them. It has all the necessary systems and conveniences that I need. Are there other coaches that have more bells and whistles? Sure. Does the Monterrey not have what you really need? Doubt it.

Is the interior what you want and in good shape? Is the exterior clean and straight?Mechanically has it been well taken care of? Do you agree on a fair price? If yes then you will have a very nice coach.

I have added a fair amount of upgrades to mine (residential refer, TV's, solar, extra batteries) and if you have questions feel free to send me a private message.

PS if this coach is at a dealer and in good shape fairly priced it will be sold shortly, don't hesitate they go fast.

Having bought an older high quality coach (though not a Beaver) I can definitely say I would do it again and put build quality over age. There will always be things to repair and items you will want to upgrade but that’s half the fun in my opinion. What you DON’T want (speaking from experience) is drivetrain issues. Drivetrain issues are your biggest risk and potential cost exposure. Get the engine and transmission checked out by a mechanic that’s knowledgeable on your particular engine and transmission. I didn’t do that and discovered it had a bad head gasket. The engine repairs ended up costing a little more than the purchase price of the coach. Fortunately I love the coach and am still dollars ahead, but proper due diligence would have paid off in spades. Worst of all, I had some splainin’ to do to the wife!

Bit of a hijack here. My wife and I just visisted Beaver Coach RV sales in Bend and I think I am sold on a used Beaver. My wife wants a 36' Monterey, Which they stopped building in 2006 if I have read the correct info. I want a newer 2007/2008 Contessa 38 or 40. All that aside, one of the changes I see in 2007 is that the driver's side main slide no longer extends the basement storage areas. My question to you is whether that extra basement slideout in your 2006 limits in someway access or use of the basement?

Does not resteict the access but actually easier to get to than under the passager slide, thats a bit more trobelsome to access. Just my opinion. Not much difference in o7/08 contessa than 06 Monterrey. Longer is better though. Also the Contessa with the 425hp C9 had more problems, it seems to me from what i have read on this forum.

Bend Beaver Coach is a great source of info too. Real Pros.

I bought an '06 Beaver Monterey IV last year (the short 36 foot). I love the coach. I intentionally wanted an older Cat engine. The newer diesel engines have had many problems with the introduction of catalytic converters and the requirements of urea based DEF. If you find an older Beaver in good condition at a reasonable price, snap it up. I love the Aqua-Hot and the HWH air-leveling on mine. The absorption fridge was removed and replaced with a Samsung residential. I am very happy with that conversion and I strongly recommend it. Don't be afraid of the age on the Beaver, only be concerned about condition. Good luck!
