06 Diplomat Closet Shelves

Wife wants shelves in rear closet. Wondering what is behind the rear wall before I go drilling holes for mounting lags.Seems like a hollow space, just don't want to drill into the outside cap! Thanks

I built a shelf system in our 2007 Beaver. Used uprights to take the weight and used small L brackets with small screws to avoid what you are concerned with.
Then... When wife didn't want them any longer [emoji15] it left only a few small holes.

This is what I did. We have since removed them. And use a short plastic drawer system. This gives us the cloths rod back. Click image for larger version

Menards has the thin rail and clips for adjustable shelves supported from sides. The very small screws will spread the weight and the rails rest on floor to help or not.It works well for shelves not are not too wide or very heavy.

If its like my Knight there is a good size hollow hole behind the closet but watch out there are wires criss crossing behind that wall. I cut a hole in that wall and put a small door so I can get in there. If it is not sealed up critters can come up thru that space and get up into the attic where they have all the wiring runing.
