1993 Beaver Patriot

Father in Law has a 1993 Beaver patriot from a friend. It has 1 small 12v battery for coach and 2-6v batteries for the coach. I feel like it needs two 12v for chasis and 4-6v for the coach.

I am trying to fix this up.

has 18,500 miles.

no slides.

12v Cummings

Allison Trans

help me out..

thanks

Rob

Welcome to iRV2.

Dodge trucks with the Cummins 5.9 L ,12 valve engines used 2 , 950 CCA batteries for starting as does my Cat , so your correct there , for best starting two chassis batteries .

The coach , a lot depends on equipment and planned use .

If the coach is equipped with a small inverter for the TV ( 600 watt ) and isn't used for multiple nights of boondocking ; then 2 , 6 volt batteries is ok.
Inverter of 2000 watts , or more nights off the grid , you need more coach batteries.

Two GP 31 commercial batts and 4 GC 6v is used by many coaches. The GP 31s are very robust but only carry 12-18 mo. warranty not uncommon to read lasting 10 yrs and being preemptively changed while they still started coach just fine. Two 6v would be fine for those that never boondock it might leave it weaker for boost/jump if chassis batt is dead. I would recommended GC2 6V over 12v deep cycle, that I never got over 4yrs on in My TT I switched to GC2 got 11 yrs they still were fair when sold. My old rig used two 8D deep cycle I replaced with 4 GC2 6v for house. Monaco use 8D they are too expensive in deep cycle version nowadays. PO put in 8D starting batts as house I moved to chassis they crank M11 over like a Honda 4cyl.

Rob,

Which Cummins diesel-- the B or C engine/ 5.9 liter or 8.3 liter. Different chassis battery requirements for starting.
