1999 HR Imperial Main Awning problem
New owner. I have had Motorhomes with awnings before but this one is different. I unlatched all the locking mechanisms on the arms tried to pull the awning out and promptly tore off the loop on the strap.. Remebering that there should be a lock on the front of the roller I found something I’ve never seen before and I can’t figure out how it can operate. I suppose its not difficult but I’m baffled.

I believe you have a Carefree of Colorado Omega II awning. Here are 2 pdfs which may help.

Thank you, and yes it is a Carefree of Colorado! But I don’t find the specific model designation, however it is not the same as the links you posted. I’ve pushed, pulled and tried every maneuver I can think of and I can’t get the locking mechanism to change position in any significant way. Damndest thing. Here’s a look from the other side.

Definitely will help to download the correct operating manual. It may take opening a few to identify your model but Carefree has an extensive list of discontinued product manuals.
I've got an older Dometic awning and it sure helps to have a manual when it comes to operation and parts.

Thanks very much. I was unable to locate my awning in the discontinued product manuals at Carefree of Colorado. I finally called them (because their email form was not functional) and they sent me an email with which I was able to submit photos. That did not prove to be of much assistance.
However I located a nearby independent RV repair service and when I stopped by and showed him the photos posted here he was able to advise me to look for a switch, tab, or lever on the inside of the support arm below the lock mechanism. Sure enough it was just as he said. I’ve never seen anything like it. All the ones I’ve owned or seen had to be switched with the awning rod at the mechanism. So, I’ve happily found the answer. Now I can replace the pull strap that I broke trying to extend the awning prior to gaining this knowledge

Good to know. If you could post a picture showing the unusual location of the lever and how you actuate it, it might help someone else

Of course. You beat me to it. I haven’t actually been able to move it fully up and down between positions. It does not want to travel freely the full travel. I hope to have more luck when I am able to get some additional help to move everything around a little.

Nice, thank you. Is there a pull down lever at the top too? It sort of looked that way from your previous pictures but if so it was rather unconventional looking from my particular A& E / Dometic roller tube perspective.
