1999 Monaco Diplomat Baggage Door Handles

We've had several of the baggage door handles either break or stop opening, so we've decided to replace them.

Unfortunately, discovering the model number and parts number for the handle assembly has not been easy.

The one broken one has the number T500 stamped inside it. However, while the handle portion looks possible right (ours are painted to match the coach), the "hook" assembly at the bottom looks nothing like ours. For example, we don't have a long, extended piece (the plunger?) coming off the bottom of the lock...at least, not that we can see.

Is this something that only shows up when the lock is engaged, and therefore can't be seen when the door is open?

Any help, as well as the actual part and model number of the lock and lock frame assembly for the '99 Diplomat, would be greatly appreciated!

Google for Trimark or Southco catalogs. Paddle latches is what they are called, lots of specs with pictures. 99% chance it is in one or the other.

If you join the Monaco Monacoers they have a file on most parts and where to find them in their file section.

We joined, and they seem like really great people! Unfortunately, the 99 Diplomat seems pretty under-served in the masters Parts List document. I'm not sure how much crossover there is between, say, the 99 Diplomat and the 2000 and the 2001, but it's really kind of tough to tell without cross-correlation of some kind.

It did confirm what we already discovered this afternoon about the basement door latches. However, it didn't specifically identify the ones we need for our 99 Diplomat, only the 2001 and later.

Do you happen to know if the ones from the 99 are the same as the ones on the 01?

Thanks again!

I would think the 01 would be the same as the 99

You have to remove the latch and get the number stamped on it and call Trimark to get a new one. If you buy two, they are about $60 a piece. Make sure you give them the lock number so your existing key will work. You will have to have it painted as they are primed new.
