Roy, I was talking about the lug nuts not the hub nuts. Yeah using the dial indicator is a must. I also marked everything with a scribe before I took it apart so I knew if i was in the ball park. It was perfect and really didn't need to be done. But how can you be sure unless you check? Good info about the seals, I wasn't aware of that.

There are also different grades of seals from cheap to pricey. My 2cents don't go cheap unless you plan to take them apart again soon. Each manufacturer makes at least three grades of covers, the originals were top shelf.

Tom,

Yeah I knew that. Sorry I jumped around in my description.

Those C/R seals are the best that Capitol Clutch and Brake (Sacramento) has. BTW, they have all the goodies, if you haven't been there yet.

Regards,
Roy

SOLVED

Hey everyone dont mean to bring up a dead thread but i finally fixed the violent shimmy in the steering wheel a year and 4 months later haha. I eventually found new drums and the same timkin wheel bearings that were installed into the e1000i steer axle our diplomats used. After removing, and installing the new bearings and drum onto the driver side the shimmy is 95% gone. I figured this was mostly due to drum out of roundness but the bearings showed signs of galling (heat welds). After doing the passenger side bearings only yesterday the shimmy is now 100% gone.

Moral of the story is age affects wheel bearings as much as mileage. Not too many miles but the bearings were definitively looser than the new bearings in lateral play.
