2000 Beaver Contessa

Just happened to see this nice gal on a dealer lot. DW likes it a lot, and research seems to indicate that Beaver made a pretty high quality product. We may not get as much use out of it right away as I'd like, but if it's the right coach I can see us using it all the way to the cemetery.

Concern? It's only got 80K miles which might indicate not enough use to keep things lubed and loose. Could that be a problem? I'd surely do more than enough due diligence before we pulled the trigger, as it's not a priority now, but I'm thinking that if the Beavers are as good as people say, and they're as rare as they say on the used market, then I may not want to risk letting this one get by, if everything else checks out. The price is at the high end of my budget but if we made an offer I'd start low and see what happens. Perhaps if I wait until there's a couple inches of snow on the ground, the dealer may be a bit more motivated.

I saw a 2001 Contessa, just a awesome Coach. Hard to find em, not many for sale. Check it out and go for it! I'm still looking, hope I can find a Beaver that I want...

We have an 07 Beaver Contessa (Bayshore 42). We are quite happy with it and would not hesitate doing it again if needing to purchase another coach.

I've seen older coaches with a lot less mileage. 80K miles is ~5-6K per year, which is reasonable if it was driven annually. If there was a long period of none use I would do some checking.

Check on maintenance records which will indicate how well the coach was taken care of.

If you are not capable have a competent person do the inspection, specifically the chassis, engine, drive train, which is the area of big bucks when talking repair. I'd have some one check for any engine, transmission, or chassis fault codes. Also should be able to get SN from engine and check if any major issues were repaired, they should have a complete history if done by authorized repair facility.

Naturally tires could be an issue, check date codes.

Check roof for leaks, caulking around vents and skylights make sure it isn't failing/failed.

If everything checks out I wouldn't be afraid of a coach with 80K miles. I just turned 99k on mine and it is running strong (knock on wood).

Good luck

There are a couple on eBay in my budget or just a tad above, too bad they're 3000 miles away... :(

We may take a closer look this weekend, the cursory glance last week was just that, a glance. My next door neighbor is a 25+ year diesel mechanic, so I might just pick his brains. Not sure how much exp. he has with Cat's, though.
