2000 Monaco Diplomat 38A

Going to look at a 2000 Monaco Diplomat 38A, asking $20K.
Any suggestions or advice?
What would be a good toad?

If you do a search you can find numerous posts from people asking the same thing.
I own a Monaco Windsor, a couple grades above the Diplomat but either way Monaco made good rigs back then.

If you are not familiar with DP's I suggest getting a inspection done.

See if there are any maintenance records, oil changes for engine, trans, gen are important.

Check all the appliances to make sure the work. Refrigerator, AC units, Water heater, furnace.

Look for any leaks at roof lines, around windows and vents. Tell tale signs are discoloration.

Check dates on tires, 7 years is the normal age out period so if they have 4 years on them you have maybe 3 years before tires. I just on a set for mine, $3K so take the age & condition into account when finalizing price.

Good luck

If you go over to the Monaco owners forums and dig around you will find a lot of good information.

There are a lot of Monaco specific items you should be aware of.

I bought a ‘01 38 Diplomat almost 4 years ago now and love it. I haven’t really had my problems with it so not sure what I can help with there. Everyone says to check the bottom of the slides for rot, general maintenance etc. The price you say seems cheap to me.....

inspect the slide seals and the floor under the kitchen cabinet and behind the drivers seat.Look for crack and or loose tiles at the area were the slide comes in. i only tell you this because i just found 8K in damage due to a failed seal. Verify all systems operate gen set with both AC's running, check operation of refrigerator on both gas and AC both land and gen set. Check date codes on tire anything past 5 years are almost due for replacement.

first and foremost HIRE A PROFESSIONAL TO INSPECT THE COACH. It may cost you 500 bucks but may save you thousands.

Remember every rubber part and seal that is original is past it fail date.
Verify batteries are holding charge (6) total.

Inspect the chassis there are many weld that fail under tanks and support body panels.

2000 Monaco Diplomat been there done that, inspect, inspect, inspect and then re-inspect every single system.

have the current owner set the unit up, relieve air, level, set awning, antenna up, the full deal. I failed this part and found a broken awning spring, no big deal but 150 bucks and 5 hours troubleshooting investigating and installing the part.

Look for ANY sign of moisture, pull lower cabinet drawers, water heater box, furnace.

Water is a killer and it is very secretive and quiet buzz killer.

Inspect the seal around the windshield, about 1700 bucks unless they can remove the glass with out damage.

The 2000 Monaco Diplomat advertised as excellent condition. My mechanic walked around it once and got back in the truck so we left. Bought a 1998 Monaco Windsor.
