2000 Monaco lost ignition key
Hello fellow travelers-My mom has an old 2000 Diplommat on a Roadmaster chassis. Unfortunately she's been stricken with dementia. She has lost the only ignition key to the RV. I have called Monaco and they were no help to get key code. I went to 3 RV dealers in the North Texas area, no help, called 4 locksmiths they wont touch the dash.
Can anyone out there help me figure out this problem.
I have used all the brains I have to solve this.
Best,
Annita

Look in closets for a plastic sleeve with 8.5x11 sheets of paper. If you are lucky that will be your build sheets and the GM key code will be on there.
Step 2... Google GM (General Motors) ignition lock cylinder removal. Pretty easy, then you can take it to a locksmith and have the key made, or buy a new key and cylinder.
Good Luck

Here is the key cylinder that is used in my coach, listed by REV who owns the intellectual property of the old Monaco brand.

This should be compatible with the ignition switch.
You should be able to replace just the key cylinder. Google a video on how to do this, you may have to have a special tool to release the ignition switch from the cylinder and then remove the bezel to get the key cylinder out.

Most (maybe all) of the early Monacos use a GM ignition switch. A 1972 GM/Chevy Truck era switch.
You need the key to get the key cylinder to rotate so you can depress the lock pin and remove the cylinder (which you need to do to get the switch out of the dash). In the mean time buy a new ignition switch (with a new key) and you can plug that into the wiring harness plug then let it hang under the dash (or wherever) and you can at least start the Coach and drive it.
Not sure why a mobile lock smith wont work on it. It's easy. You (or locksmith) then drill out the lock cylinder to remove it,
Here's a video on how it is removed There are dozens of how to videos on this.

Welcome to IRV2
Sorry your first post is about problems .
As Jim J , has posted replacement ignition locks are available; and the actual switch should be available locally too .
If you do have to resort to drilling the lock out , disconnect the wiring from the back of the switch ( or disconnect the chassis batteries ) before you start .
The mount bezel is also available on line if you do happen to damage it.

Explaining that the key/lock is simply from an older GM vehicle, maybe a mobile guy would now agree to look at it?

Lost ignition key update. Finally found a locksmith who would help. He couldn’t make a key after an hour, so drilled out the ignition and replaced it with a new one.
