2000 Monaco Windsor - tires???

Hello.

I have a 2000 Monaco Windsor 34'.

I am wondering what size tires eveyone is running?

My RV has two different sizes and was told that isn't correct.

Front: 275 / 70 - 22.5
Rear: 295 / 75 - 22.5

The rears fill out the wheel well nicely and kinda make the fronts look small. My tire guy says the bigger fronts would havea higher weight capacity and ride smoother.

Just curious what everyone else is running.

Thank you,

Cory P.

The 275/70R22.5 was OEM from Monaco. If you have room in your wheel wells for the larger size, it will enable you to lower the psi of your steer tires or carry more weight.

Have you weighed your Windsor yet?

You need to know what the weight on the rear axle is, the tongue weight of your trailer, and what the front axle weight is. With this you can calculate your exact tire pressure and the tire weight rating required.

There should be a Roadmaster sticker on the wall somewhere near the drivers seat. It will give you the original tire size and axle ratings.
Like Steve said, if you can fit the larger tires up front, they may allow you to run less air pressure and therefore ride slightly better. Make sure you measure with the coach tire clearance at ride height and with the tires in both left and right turn lock.
On the other hand, some folks are sticklers for orignal as that usually cases less problems.

Difficult to paste charts in here, but the larger tires are 2.2" taller and 1.1" wider (3mph difference at 60). You also want to check your rims to make sure they are within the width spec for the new tires.

Size SidewallRadius Diameter Circumference Revolutions Speedo Odometer Difference
275/70-22.5 7.6" 18.6" 37.2" 116.7" 543/mi 60MPH 10000mi N/A
295/75-22.5 8.7" 19.7" 39.4" 123.8" 512/mi 57MPH 9426mi 6.1%

Thank you,

Cory you have a 13,000 front axle and you would have to run 120# on the 275/70 if it was loaded to the max, your rear is a 20,000 axle and you could run 85# but I would run 90# on the 295/75, nothing wrong with the rear but upgrade the front.
Monaco sent out a letter where they replaced the 275/70 with 295/80 in June 26 2002 on all Windsors from 99 to 2000 because they are to small or border line, some of the guys did have a rub on the plastic cover on the LR slide out roller in the front left wheel well and a small rub when cut to the max on the steering arm. I dont think the 295/75 will rub but dont know, weigh your coach and air accordingly + a little.
Here is a link to your coach

I have a 2000 Windsor 40' and looked at the Monaco web site which states my vehicle came with 275/75/22.5 tires but it actually has 295/80/22.5. So the previous owner must have switched them. They fit fine

Interesting, Rob has the larger tires on the front while Corry has the larger tires on the rear.

Our DSDP came with 275/70's all around. I had to run 120 psi on the fronts. When I replaced the OEM tires I went to Michelin 305/70's as they are only ½" larger in diam. and 1" wider. They have the same load rating as a 295/70, I have no problems with rubbing anywhere and I only need 100 psi. now.

For you guys running the 295/80/22.5, what brand did you go with and how do you like them? Thanks

Steer axle: Michelin XZA2 Energy in May 2009
Drive/Tag: Bridgestone R250 in May 2010

Both balanced with Dynabeads.
Happy with all of above.

A 295/80/22.5 has an outside diameter of 41 inches.
A 295/75/22.5 would be 39.92"

Sorry if you already know this:
295 is the tread width and 75 or 80 is the aspect ratio or percentage of the width in sidewall height.
So 295x.80=236mm sidewall height x 2 because tire height includes 2 sidewalls (236x2=472) plus the rim. Divide by 25.4 to convert to english (472/25.4=18.58" plus the 22.5" rim = 41.08"
