2000 Windsor Steering Wheel Controls

Hello all! So I was able to find an old post about replacing the slip ring on a 2000 Windsor but never saw if the fix worked.

My horn is intermittent, wipers go on without warning and I can't shut them off.

Any ideas?

Brian,

Welcome to iRV2.

Do you have a "smart wheel"?

First thing I would check is the connectors located on the side of the steering column, you will have to remove the plastic shroud to get to them.

I'd remove and reseat each of the connectors on the VIP Smartwheel module, mine is located behind the radio. A loose connector could be the cause. Then look at the VIP Smartwheel troubleshooting guide that I attached, there are a couple tests to try and pin point.

Finally also attached is a TSB on how to change the clock spring if that is ultimately the problem. Veurinks has them but you'll have to check to make sure you get the right one. https://shop.findmyrvparts.com/clock...3-p/190063.htm

I will give that a try tomorrow and see what I can find. The guides are a great help, thank you.

When we had a similar issue on our Windsor, I first removed smart wheel controls and directly connected it to the controller, bypassing slip rings.

After extensive testing, I found slip rings were the issue. I removed, cleaned the rings, it was fine for a while, but then failed again.

At the end, I decided to replace slip rings with a clock spring, and it's been working fine since.

Thank you for this information
Our Smart wheel has an intermittent wiper that I have been looking into. So far the wire bundle was zip tied in the wrong place not allowing enough slack in the bundle for the telescoping wheel.
Still giving me an intermittent problem

Checked and cleaned all the connections and it seems to be working now. I didn't drive it down the road, in all fairness. Next ride out I will see what happens. BTW, the module was behind the radio as well.
