2001 HR Endeavor trim panel removal

Bought a ScanGaugeD and want to mount it so it's within eye-shot while driving.

Trouble is I'm not sure how to remove the trim panel to gain access to the compartment with the ECU connector.

I see several "buttons" that clearly hold the panel in place. Do I pull them just like a car's trim panel? Or is there some other trick to it?

If you are talking about the upholstered "buttons" that typicallyhold upholstered panels on, simply pry them off (they are actually a snap) and the screw will be accessible under it.

Yep - figured that out. Trouble is deeper than that, however.

It turns out the panel is attached to the dash with hidden screws, so it appears I'd have to pull the dash as well. I tried to see if they were in some type of slide-lock, but they won't come apart.

Makes it challenging to route the ScanGauge D cable to the dash. But not impossible.

Thanks!!

What model Endeavor do you have? My 2001 38PBD has the ECU under the dash to the left of the steering column. Easy to access.

I have a 38WDS. The ECU and a connector are in the side compartment under the driver's seat. I just figured there's only one connector, but will check under the dash tomorrow. That would be WAY easier ...

On our 01 Windsor the connector is just under the left side the dash. I set it in the little area in front the switches beside the drivers seat,, beside the dash.
The scan gauge d reads about anything you have interest in, just pick the 4 you want showing.
The gauge gives me accurate readings I can't get on the stock gauges.
I love it!

I bought mine at Advance Auto. I would think most any auto parts store could get one for you. Just make sure it's for diesel. Gas won't work.
In addition to reading everything that is currently on the dash, it will also give you MPG, GPH, BOOST Press (if you have a turbo and no boost gauge), HP, TP, (throttle position), AIR INTAKE TEMP. There are many more & you will be able to select 4 at a time.

I have the 'regular' ScanGauge units in both of my cars. All I can say is that they're great - not only do they give you a wealth of running info about your vehicle, but they can also capture and (in most cases) present fault codes and even allow you to temporarily (if an intermittent) clear them.

Two things to remember: they only provide what info the ECM is spitting-out, and they can't do everything. For instance, I can get horsepower info on my Chevy Tahoe but not on my Dodge Grand Caravan. And when I got a fault code on the Dodge, it turned out to be from the ABS system which (at least in 2006) didn't talk to the main ECM, so I didn't know what it was til I went to the Dodge shop and they used their ABS scanner.

All in all, a terrific product - whether the gas or the diesel version.

Caveat: I'm not affiliated with ScanGauge, I just like 'em
