2001 Knight Purchase Questions

flying to Arizona to look at a 2001 Monaco Knight 34' coach. Had a friend go look at it and he thinks it's a keeper.

Anything I should look for as far as problems or known things that may need to be done?

I think it is a 34H, although the floor plan doesn't match the Brochure, two slides.Rm4C chassis, 300hp cummins 5.9 54 block, 5 speed 3000 series Allison.

Comments from owners about the coach would also be helpful.

Thanks

Tom

Nothing in particular, a 2001 is outside the range of the trailing arm recall, which is a plus.

I talked to an RV inspector and he said it'd take 8 hours to fully inspect an RV with over 2 hours of that flat on our backs under the coach. He wouldn't inspect a coach without you being there. I didn't spend near that much time looking at ours before we purchased, but we should have. We got lucky and didn't have any unidentified expensive issues pop up. I will just tell you to take your time and bring a flashlight, overalls and safety glasses and spend some time looking and poking in the dark recesses of the new coach.

That vintage Knight will be on the RR4R chassis, not the RR8R so only 4 air bags.

Here's a brochure if you haven't found one.

The '01chassis appears to be the RM4R. There is some confusion over how much commonality it has with the somewhat infamous RR4R chassis with it's cracking and breaking rear trailing arms which are thoroughly discussed in this link.

http://www.irv2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54838

I would recommend calling Source Engineering, the manufacturers of the gold standard replacements for the inferior trailing arms, to see if the RM4R chassis has the same trailing arms as the R4RR.

we have an 07 knight 40skt........so not quite the same.............we have the 8.3 cummins, plenty of power.............we have spend a great deal of $ on repairs and improvements since the purchase in 2015, but i don't work on it, pay someone to do it...............overall, monaco's of that era pretty solid unit...............

We looked at a 2001 Knight but decided to go with a Diplomat because the Knight does not have air brakes, they are hydraulic. I saw a bunch of issues with the Knight brakes on this site. Try an iRV2 site search first.
