2003 Monaco - What is black box in this pic

The attached picture is a black box that is attached to the outside firewall. It somehow relates to the dash air as there is an air line that runs from the box. I can hear air leaking from the box and my dash air is now stuck in defrost.

My question is what is this box so I an determine if I need to replace. I am assuming there shouldn't be air leaking from inside of box.

No picture but a SWAG would be the vacuum generator which provides a vacuum to all the lines going to the dash heat and air controls.

I would check all the connections.
I accidently hit one of my lines causing the vacuum generator to run all the time.

I think you might be correct. When the engine is running I can hear air coming from box. When I take the box apart there is a valve in the middle that has air coming out of it. I am assuming that probably shouldn't be happening and probably the cause for the dash air stuck in defrost.
