2003 Monaco Windsor - 12V Problems

I have started to notice that my interior lights flicker from time to time and sometimes when something 12v turns on (like furnace) that all 12v will cut out very briefly and the screen that shows what charge the house batteries are under (bulk, float or absorption) will reset. Also, it seems to happen more often when connected to shore power. Any help will be appreciated.

Check all the connections at the coach batteries.
How old are the coach batteries and will they hold a charge?

I actually replaced all the coach batteries thinking that would solve the problem but it didn't.

Good afternoon Coreyph; Have you tried toggling the salesman switch to see if the solenoid is fully engaged. It is possible that the contacts are not making good contact and when more load is put on the system, you have problems. First I would put a jumper across the solenoid and see if your problems disappear. The solenoid should be in the rear, curb side electrical bay. Look for the diagram on the underside of that bay door. The diagram should identify all the components in that bay. Give this a try and see what happens and let us know if that was a fix. A lot of owners bypass the salesmen switch because of the problems you are having. All the items you mentioned that run on 12V are the same 12V items that are on my 01 Windsor. The ceiling lights, furnace, A/C and etc. Also if the 12V salesmen switch solenoid was to fail, in my Windsor I would not have ceiling lights, furnace, the overhead A/C's, water pump, and power to my Thetford electric toilet.

Will it be labeled "Salesman Solenoid"? I was looking in that compartment today and there is some corossion on some of the items that I need to clean up. I will let you know what I find out. Thanks.

Hi Coreyph; I know I have been in that bay and also looked at the diagram on the back of the compartment door so many times I can't count them. I know it's labeled a 12V solenoid, but can't remember if it says salesmen on it. I would go out and look now, but is dark here in Auburn, Wa. and pouring rain. I will look tomorrow and see what the solenoid it is labeled. Also you could have your wife, or someone else, toggle the salesmen switch at the front door and you should be able to hear in engage and disengage. Should be an audible click or clunk. Also, it is recommended that you do not have lots of 12V items turned on when engaging that solenoid. For example, if you leave all the interior lights on in the coach and when you exit, you just turn off the salesmen switch at the door. When you enter, again you just turn the salesmen switch on and all the interior lights come on. This can cause the contacts in the solenoid to ark and burn the contacts. I make sure to shut all 12V items run by that solenoid off when I leave the coach. When I return and flip the switch on entry, no load on the contacts. These solenoids get old over time and will fail, but if you make them transfer large loads across the contacts you will shorten its lifespan. Sorry, just a little FYI.

My Battery Cutoff Solenoid is located in the compartment next to the batteries in the lower center and is a a White Rogers, here is a link to what it looks like https://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&ke...l_6u4fatmlml_e




You may also try to cycle the battery cut off switch, mine is a rotary type located in the top of the same bay.

Salesman switch is a slang term for battery disconnect. It will be labled as that.

Two separate things, one is controlled by the small switch in the coach, the second is a manual one.
