2004 GMC 2500 4WD toad

Have a question, I have been thinking about towing my 2004 GMC Diesel 4WD so I can sell my Jeep and lower my overhead, my owners manual says I can flat tow by placing transfer box in neutral and transmission in park which works for me, it also says to turn ignition OFF, then release park brake and tow. I have had a few people tell me I need to leave Ignition on and pull fuse, I am leaning toward GM directions, anyone have any experience with this year of truck.
Thanks

If your steering wheel doesn't lock when you turn off key you don't need to leave it on. My 2013 gmc doesn't have a steering lock but starting in 2014 they put them in the pickups and you have to leave the key turned on.

My 2001 Duramax was flat towed prior to me buying it. I debated this time, but went for a Jeep to tow because it is a wee bit smaller. Easier to maneuver at times.

Thanks for the feed back, will check steering. The truck will be a little more weight to tow but much more comfortable than Jeep wrangler.

Some vehicles you must have the key in ign, but not turn it on. Seems if you pull the key it locks the steering. But if you leave the key in but not on all is ok. Try starting the car, turning it off, as you pull the key out listen for a switch clicking if you hear clicking you have locked the steering. So then you must leave the key in while towing. Hope that made sense.

Usually that's too heavy a vehicle for a lot of rigs but it should be OK for yours.
