2004 monaco gm workhorse

?? Allison 5spd. whine?? Normal? What can be done to quiet it??

I think you'll need to first verify it's from the transmission and not the differential. I drove an old school bus that had a diff. going out and the noise was terrible! It reverberated up the drive shaft and you'd swear it was coming from the transmission. Check fluid in differential for metal shavings, level. Does the noise change as you accelerate, coast? Does it make noise in all gears?

Mine has whined for thousands of miles. changed to transynd fluid no difference in noise. I now call it normal.
