2006 Monaco Dynasty Diamond v CC Allure
My husband and I are purchasing our first MH and will be FT'rs for a couple of years. We will be in upper NY until Jan. and then probably south to Atlanta and Florida. He is currently traveling, we have researched about a year and will purchase one of thes MH's in the next couple of weeks.
This will allow me to travel and live with him along with our three small dogs.
He is 6'5" and needs a king size bed. Both of these coaches seem to offer us what we need and are looking for.
Any thoughts? I am doing footwork want il he gets to our home base of Naples, Fl. Next week which is when we want to purchase.
Thanks!

Both are quality coaches and, assuming either has the interior floor plan and décor you desire, I would say get the one that has the best evidence of proper maintenance and care.
Assuming both have tag axles and especially if either or both are 42' or longer, I would lean toward the one with the biggest engine. We have a 42' Allure and we love it. It has the Cummins 425hp ISL engine and it runs great but I would love to have a few more horses back there, especially when traveling out West. CC did put the 500/525 hp engines in the Intrigue (even larger engines in the Magna's and Affinity's). If you can find an Intrigue to your liking, that might be worth consideration.
If you will mainly travel the East coast, I would say you would be perfectly happy with the ISL in the Allure (or the 400 hp CAT if that is the case).

Both the CC and Allure have the Cummings 400 ISL engine and are 42 ft.
They are both gorgeous inside and are well taken care of with records. It would be easier having them together! Love the decor on both, paint jobs fantastic.
Right now we will be on the east coast but will want to travel everywhere. At this point we are looking for something reliable and comfortable to start in and these both seem to fit the bill.
What do you love about your Allure?

I'm only directly familiar with the Dynasty and know it to be a top quality coach. The CC has an excellent reputation also.
The engine in both of these coaches might have been the subject of a serious recall. There was a specific defect in the connecting rod/wrist pin which could cause the engine to suffer a catastrophic failure.
Engines subject to this recall were in a certain serial number range listed in the recall document. Cummins fix was a non fix in my estimation. I personally know of one of these engines failing at about 35,000 miles after the recall sensors were installed.
I personally wouldn't purchase a coach with an engine in this serial number range.

I would contact the owners or dealers and request the engine serial number for both coaches.

The ISL 400 has adequate power. Our last four long trips have been in the west. I did not need more power. This being said, there is no such thing as too much power.

I owned an ISL 400 and it was a great engine. As I understand it there were only 60 total engines manufactured with the faulty wrist pins, but the actual serial numbers they went into were not available, so many more were included in the recall. The actual faulty engines were manufactured in 2005 and early 2006.

Very true, my Husband has always agreed with that! Thanks for the input on your trips out west. This is pretty much the conclusion that we have come to.

As noted, I would check on the Cummins forum (here on IRV2) to see if either of those engines were in that recall. We did for the peace of mind.
We absolutely love the Allure. Fully featured, well constructed, drives like a dream, rides well, quiet. Not overly decorated like so many we saw while looking at higher end used DP's. CC is in business in Junction City, OR and you can get parts, tech support and service done there. Things to look for on the Allure (not show stoppers but things to consider):
1. CC (along with other manufacturers, including Monaco) got some defective aluminum radiators that failed early on. You can call CC, give them the coach serial # and they will tell you if your coach was built with one of those suspect radiators. Mine was but it is still holding up at 57,000 miles. I am told to plan on $5K -$7K to replace one so take that into consideration with your negotiations if yours is suspect.
2. CC used a PTO (power take off) mounted to the Allison transmission to power the radiator fan and your power steering. The OEM was called a 'dry' PTO which means the PTO gear was just greased when installed. If it has not been checked and re-lubed, they have been known to fail which leaves you stranded. Many CC owners installed an upgrade called a 'wet PTO' which circulates transmission fluid to that gear and eliminates the need for periodic lubing. See if the Allure has had the upgrade.... many did.

First I need to confess that I am 6ft 5 also. So for me any coach built before 2005 is out. Cause they raised the ceiling so that I have 5 inches or so head room. Therefore your hubby won't like a 2004 or older. Also, you will be happier with a 45 footer, particularly if you are full time. Won't cost you a bit more. Now for the clincher. Monaco offered a 515 HP 1650 ft lb Detroit Diesel. Gobs of power and torque wherever you go. You won't hear about premature blown valves like the cummins ISX or con rod or cracked exhaust manifolds with the Cummins ISL. they are so bullet proof you won't hear anybody complain about them.. I am a long long trip across the U.S. And back. We have gone from CA to NYC and are now heading home. The coach is averaging 7.1 mpg and has caused NO problems. It has used NO oil.
This engine was offered on the Monaco Signature , Dynasty, and Navigator. If you are concerned about driving a big 45 footer. Consider that the driver is sitting in the front left corner. The rest of the coach will follow nicely. Give it a few days of driving to get used to it and your 6ft 5 inch husband will never look back ( so to speak).

They are sending us the vin number. We think this will be perfect to FT in and be kind to two newbies learning as we go. We so appreciate your help.
Do you know where I could find a thread on "must have's" to get started?

We have been checking ceilings and furniture comfort in all of the coaches we have considered. It looks like it will be the 2006 Dynasty Diamond IV.
Is there any supplies or items that helped get started....or any helpful hints that would make getting started go smoother. We are starting from scratch!
