My rig is a 38PKD Windsor, which is almost 40' long.
It came with two 13.5K BTU AC/heat pumps. In really hot weather they struggled to keep the coach cool. Last year on a trip to the upper midwest in July with temps ~100F the inside temps were ~85F. Not good.
So when I got back from that trip I started looking at the AC and options and decided to upgrade to two 15K BTU AC/heat pumps. Haven't had a chance to put it through the same type of test but in Nov I was in TX and temps were 90F and one AC was easily keeping the coach cool.
Last week I decided to excercise the AC's I ran both for ~1/2 hour and then cut back to one. Temps outside were +90F, after two hours the one AC had the coach down to 74F. Not bad.
So I check on the size of the units first. Then if possible do a test with one for a couple hours and see how it handles the heat. You should be able to do this with the explanation of testing the AC's while you inspect the coach.
