2008 Camelot 42PDQ Tag Axle Spindle Nut Size?

I have a mechanic coming to replace a wheel seal on my tag axle but he needs to know what size the spindle axle nut is? Anyone know? Thanx!

I emailed Hendrickson because the tag axle was built by them and found out it's a 3.25" spindle nut

That's handy to know - but what kind of mechanic are you hiring that "expects you to know" the nut size?

Any reputable mechanic that does "on the road" work would have/bring an assortment of wheel bearing adjuster nut sockets and have a complete set of heavy-truck tools on his service truck.

Now if this guy is just a friend with some mechanical skills willing to help you out, then that's a different story... and hopefully he knows the correct way to adjust a wheel bearing (it involves a large torque wrench). Since you have the Hendrickson manual, I'm sure you 've seen this (note step 7 and the Warning):

Good luck.

Yup he's been fixing busses and big trucks for over 20 years at the biggest bus dealership in a 5 state area. He has the correct spindle nut sockets. But just wanted to make sure that it wasn't something crazy. Which the 3.75" 8 wall inner nut is. I contacted 6 different big truck/rv shops (and Northern/Harbor Freight/Rental shops) and none had one that big. Plus most online were 6 wall/point. Ended up getting it on ebay. To be able to get him out and fix on site is great!! Otherwise it's in the shop for a few days! Also he can look over the rest of the coach and engine as he is also a certified Cummins Master Mechanic.

So yes..I trust him

8-sided nut, I missed that point in your first post. That's really odd.

Did you get a chance to pull the "hub cover" and confirm, or are you going by what Hendrickson said?

I don't recall ever seeing an 8 sided wheel bearing adjustment nut before.

Glad you got that job finished. Nice!

That nut looks "normal" to me - I guess I never paid much attention to how many sides it had. Thanks for following up and finishing this thread.

I'm sure a person could have swapped out the nuts to 6 sided ones as long as they are the correct size? Would make it easier for the next person

Did you also change the oil in the tag axle?
I'm trying to figure out how to change it.
